Pattern: See diagram M.1. The diagram shows 1 pattern repeat.

Heel dec:
Row 1 (= RS): Work row until 8-9-10 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece.
Row 2 (= WS): Work row until 8-9-10 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece.
Row 3: Work row until 7-8-9 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso, turn the piece.
Row 4: Work row until 7-8-9 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P1, psso, turn the piece.
Continue dec like this with 1 less st before each dec until there are 14 sts on row.

SOCK
Worked in the round on double pointed needles. Cast on 55-55-60 sts on needle size 3 mm [US 2or3] with 1 thread of each quality. K 1 round, P 2 rounds and K 2 rounds. Continue as follows: * M.1, P 2-2-3 sts *, repeat from *-* 5 times. Remember the knitting gauge! Work 4 vertical repeats of M.1 like this. Piece measures approx 12 cm [ [4¾”]. Now keep the first 31-31-33 sts on needle for heel and slip the last 24-24-27 sts on a stitch holder (= mid upper foot). Work stockinette st back and forth on heel sts, at the same time dec 3-1-1sts evenly on first row = 28-30-32 sts. When heel measures 5-5.5-6 cm [2’’-2¼’’-2 3/8’’] insert a Marking Thread (MT) in piece – now measure piece from here. Now dec for heel - see Heel dec. After heel dec pick up 12-13-14 sts on either side of heel and slip the 24-24-27 sts back on needles = 62-64-69 sts. Continue in pattern as before on the 24-24-27 sts on upper foot and work remaining sts in stockinette st. At the same time dec each side as follows: K tog the last 2 sts before the 24-24-27 sts on upper foot into back of loop and K tog the first 2 sts after the 24-24-27 sts. Dec like this on every other round a total of 9-8-8 times = 44-48-53 sts. When piece measures 18-19-21 cm [7’’-7½’’-8¼’’] from MT on heel (= approx 4-5-6 cm [1½’’-2’’-
2 3/8’’] left) insert 1 MT each side with 24-24-27 sts on upper foot and 22-24-26 sts under foot. Continue in stockinette st on all sts, at the same time dec for toes on each side of both MT as follows:
Dec as follows before MT: K2 tog.
Dec as follows after MT: K 2 tog into back of loop.
Dec like this each side on every other round a total of 5-7-9 times and then on every round 4-3-2 times = 8-8-9 sts left on needle. Cut the thread, pull through remaining sts and fasten.
