Pattern instructions

Knitting tension: Leopard: 11 sts x 19 rows on needle size 6 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
Velvet: 7 sts x 11 rows on needle size 8 mm = 10 x 10 cm. Remember the needle sizes are guidelines only!
Garter sts (back and forth): 1st row: K, 2nd row: K.

Right front piece: Cast on 21-23-25 (26-28-30) sts (incl 1 edge st at side + 2 front band sts towards mid front) on needle size 5 mm in Leopard. Knit 2 rows garter sts, change to needle size 6 mm and continue in stocking st with edge st and front band sts in garter st. Remember the knitting tension! At the same time inc 1 st at side when piece measures 9-10-11 (11-12-12) cm and 18-20-21 (24-24-25) cm = 23-25-27 (28-30-32) sts. When piece measures 28-30-32 (35-36-37) cm cast off for armhole at side on every other row: 2 sts 1-1-1 (2-2-3) times, 1 st 4-4-4 (3-4-3) times = 17-19-21 (21-22-23) sts. When piece measures 37-41-43 (48-49-51) cm cast off 6-6-7 (7-7-8) st mid front for neck. Then cast off for neckline on every other row: 1 st 3 times = 8-10-11 (11-12-12) sts left on shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 41-45-48 (53-55-57) cm.

Left front piece: Knit like right but reversed.

Back: Cast on 38-42-46 (48-52-56) sts on needle size 5 mm with Leopard and knit 2 rows garter sts. Change to needle size 6 mm and continue in stocking st – with edge st in garter st. At the same time inc 1 st each side when piece measures 9-10-11 (11-12-12) cm and 18-20-21 (24-24-25) cm = 42-46-50 (52-56-60) st. When piece measures 28-30-32 (35-36-37) cm cast off for armhole each side as described for front piece = 30-34-38 (38-40-42) sts. When piece measures 39-43-46 (51-53-55) cm cast off the middle 12-12-14 (14-14-16) sts for neck and dec 1st on next row towards neckline = 8-10-11 (11-12-12) sts left on each shoulder. Cast off when piece measures 41-45-48 (53-55-57) cm.

Sleeve: There is a hem at the bottom of the sleeve in Velvet. Cast on 16-17-18 (18-20-20) sts (incl 1 edge st each side) on needle size 8 mm with Velvet. Knit 2 rows garter st, continue in reverse stocking sts until piece measures 8-8-8 (10-10-10) cm (= hem at the bottom of sleeve).
Change to needle size 6 mm and Leopard – continue measuring the piece from this point! Continue in stocking sts, at the same time inc 8-9-10 (10-10-10) sts evenly on 1st row = 24-26-28 (28-30-30) sts. When piece measures 8-8-8 (10-10-10) cm inc 1 st each side: 2-3-3 (6-6-7) times on every 8-6-7 (3.5.-4-4) cm = 28-32-34 (40-42-44) sts. When piece measures 23-26-30 (33-36-39) cm cast off for sleeve cap each side on every other row: 2 sts 1-1-2 (2-2-2) times, 1 st 4-2-2 (1-2-2) times, then 2 sts until piece measures 30-33-37 (41-45-48) cm. Cast off.

Assembly: Sew shoulder seems. Gather approx 30-38 sts up round the neckline from WS on needle size 8 mm with Velvet. Knit stocking sts for 9-9-10 (10-11-11) cm, continue knitting 2 rows garter st before casting off loosely. Crochet a row of dc using Leopard with crochet hook size 5 mm along the left front band. Repeat along right front band – however, crochet 6-6-6 (7-7-7) buttonhole loops evenly distributed on the front band. 1 buttonhole loop = 2-3 ch, fasten with 1 dc 1.5 cm higher up. Sew the sleeves on to sweater. Sew sleeve and side seams in one. NB! Sew the hem at the bottom of sleeve WS against WS so the seam doesn’t show. (Tip: Both Leopard and Velvet are difficult to sew with, so use a remnant of wool for sewing together). Sew on buttons.
