Knitting tension: 20 sts x 26 rows with needle size 4.5 mm and stocking st = 10x10 cm. Remember needle size is only a guide

Garter st (back and forth on needle): 1 ridge = 2 rows. 1st row: K, 2nd row: K.

Decrease tip (for front neckline): Dec inside 2 ridge sts. All dec are done from RS. Dec as follows after 2 sts: Slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, lift slipped st over. Dec as follows before 2 sts: K 2 tog.

Shawl: Worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front. Cast on 250-270-290 sts on circular needle size 4.5 mm and light grey. Work 1 ridge, then continue with stocking st and 2 ridge sts in each side towards mid front. When piece measures 14-15-16 cm dec for neck in each side towards mid front every 2nd row: 1 st in total 18 times – see Decrease tip. At the same time when piece measures 25-26-27 cm dec 53-59-63 sts evenly on row – do not dec over the 4 outermost sts in each side. When piece measures 27-28-29 cm dec 53-59-63 sts evenly on row – do not dec over the outermost 4 sts in each side. When piece measures 29-30-31 cm work all sts tog 2 and 2 – do not dec over the outermost 3 sts in each side. After the last dec there are 54-58-64 sts on needle. Work 2 rows K over all sts and cast off.

Neckline: Neckline and collar are worked back and forth on circular needle. Knit up on RS 116-124-132 sts with circular needle size 4.5 mm around the neck edge: Work 1 row K (from WS), 3 rows stocking st, 1 row K, 3 rows stocking st, cast off. Fold edge double towards WS and fasten neatly.

Collar: Knit up on RS: 1 st in every P st at top of fold with circular needle size 4. 5 mm. Work rib as follows (seen from RS when collar is turned down): 4 ridge sts, * K 4, P 4 *, repeat from *-* and finish with K 4 and 4 ridge sts. Continue with rib. After 12 cm cast off in rib.

Crochet borders: Work around shawl with hook size 4 mm and light grey. Begin at top where the neck decreases start in one side and work down the band, around the lower edge and up the other band as follows: 1 dc, * 7 ch, skip forwards approx. 2 cm, work 1 dc *, repeat from *-*, cut strand.
Begin at bottom on other side and work as follows: 1 dc in 1st ch-space, * 7 ch, 1 dc in next ch-space *, repeat from *-* around the whole bottom edge (do not work the bands this time), turn with 7 ch and work back in the same way so that there are 3 rows with ch-spaces on bottom edge, cut strand.
