Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows on larger needle in pattern = 10 x 10 cm .

Pattern: See chart (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st.

Seed stitch (on an even number of sts): All rows: *knit 1, purl 1*
Seed stitch (on an odd number of sts): All rows: K 1, *P 1, K 1*
Seed stitch (worked in the round):
Row 1: *K1, P1*
Row 2: Knit the purls and purl the knits from the row below.

Rib: * K 1, P 1 *

Body: Cast on 134-144-154 (164-174) sts on smaller circular needles with gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 5 cm rib as follows: 1 row gray, 2 rows red, 1 row gray and then continue knitting with red. Change to larger circular needles, knit Pattern 1, increasing 26-26-31 (31-36) sts evenly distributed on the first row = 160-170-185 (195-210) sts. When the work measures 24-26-29 (30-31) cm , knit Pattern 2 and then knit the rest with seed st in gray. At the same time, when the work measures 26-28-31 (32-33) cm , divide into 80-85-93 (98-105) sts for the front and 80-85-92 (97-105) sts for the back. Knit the rest of each part separately.

Front: = 80-85-93 (98-105) sts. Work even until the work measures 34-37-41 (42-43) cm , bind off 6-7-7 (8-7) sts at the center front for the neck opening. When the work measures 41-44-49 (51-53) cm , bind off for the neck every other row: 11-11-12 (11-12) sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, dec 1 st 2 times. Bind off all sts when the work measures 45-48-53 (55-57) cm .

Back: = 80-85-92 (97-105) sts. Knit pattern as on the front. When the work measures 43-46-51 (53-54) cm , bind off the center 34-35-36 (35-37) sts for the neck. Then decrease 1 st at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 45-48-53 (55-57) cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 36-38-40 (42-44) sts on smaller double pointed needles with gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 4 cm rib as on the body. Change to larger double pointed needles, knit Pattern 1 (centering the pattern on the sleeve) and increase 4-2-4 (6-4) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 40-40-44 (48-48) sts. After the rib, increase 1 st each side of marker 18-20-22 (22-24) times
Size 3/4: alternately every 2nd and 3rd row
Sizes 5/6 + 7/8: every 3rd row,
Sizes 9/10 + 11/12: alternately every 3rd and 4th row
= 76-80-88 (92-96). When the work measures 24-27-31 (34-38) cm , knit Pattern 2 and then bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 26-29-33 (36-40) cm .

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 20-20-20 (30-30) sts along the right buttonband on smaller needles with gray and knit 2.5 cm stockinette st, change to red, 1 row stockinette st, purl 1 row (for the folding edge), 3 cm stockinette st, bind off all sts, fold over against the wrong side and sew. Repeat along the left side. Lay the bands over each other at the center front (they overlap for about 1.5 cm ) and sew them onto the body from the right side in such a way that the seam does not become thick. Pick up approx. 76-90 sts around the neck on smaller double pointed needles with gray and knit Border as on the buttonband back and forth on the needles. Sew embroidered band around the neck approx. 1.5 cm from the folding edge and down along the plackets. Sew on two hooks. Sew on the sleeves.
