CARDIGAN:

Body: Cast on 134-144-154 (164-174) sts on smaller circular needles with dark gray and knit 3 cm seed st. Change to larger circular needles and stockinette st, increasing 26-32-30 (28-34) sts evenly distributed on the first row = 160-176-184 (192-208) sts. Refer to the charts in Små Drops No. 6 and knit pattern as follows: Pattern 1 (start at the appropriate arrow and repeat throughout the row; knit 1 complete pattern. Then knit Pattern 2 (start at the appropriate arrow and repeat throughout the row; knit the entire pattern. On the largest sizes repeat the pattern once). At the same time, when the work measures 24-23-25 (26-27) cm , divide as follows: 40-44-46 (48-52) sts front, 80-88-92 (96-104) sts back, 40-44-46 (48-52) sts front. Knit the rest of each part separately.

Front: = 40-44-46 (48-52) sts. After Pattern 2 knit Pattern 3 (start at the appropriate arrow so that Pattern 3 is directly over Pattern 1) and then knit the rest with dark gray. When the work measures 39-39-43 (45-47) cm , bind off for the neck every other row: 14-14-15 (15-16) sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, dec 1 st 2 times. Bind off when the work measures 43-43-47 (49-51) cm .

Back: = 80-88-92 (96-104) sts. Knit pattern as on the front. When the work measures 41-41-45 (47-49) cm , bind off the center 34-34-36 (36-38) sts for the neck. Then bind off 1 st on each neck edge on the next row. Bind off all sts when the work measures 43-43-47 (49-51) cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 36-38-40 (42-44) sts on smaller double pointed needles with dark gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 3 cm seed st. Change to larger double pointed needles andstockinette st, increasing 4-2-4 (6-6) sts evenly distributed on the 1st row = 40-40-44 (48-50) sts. Knit Pattern 1 (see that you get a repeat directly centered on the sleeve). At the same time, inc 1 st each side of marker 18-20-22 (22-23) times:
Size 3/4 years: every other row
Sizes 5/6 + 7/8 years: alternately every 2nd and 3rd row
Size 9/10 years: every 3rd row
Size 11/12 years: alternately every 3rd, 3rd and 4th row
= 76-80-88 (92-96) sts. After Pattern 1 knit the rest with dark gray. When the work measures 21-24-28 (32-35) cm , bind off 3 sts each side of marker and knit the rest back and forth on the needle. Then bind off on each side every other row: 5 sts 3 times, bind off all sts. The work measures approx. 24-27-31 (35-38) cm .

Assembly: Sew shoulder seams. Pick up approx. 70-80 sts on smaller circular needles with dark gray along the left front and knit 3 cm seed st, bind off all sts. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm make 5-5-6 (6-6) buttonholes evenly distributed on the row as follows: 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts, increase 2 new sts on the next row. Pick up approx. 80-96 sts around the neck on smaller double pointed needles with dark gray and knit 2 cm seed st back and forth on the needle, bind off all sts. Sew on the sleeves. Stitch "blanket stitch" with green around bottom edge and sleeve edges and around the neck = 1 st goes over 2 (knitted) sts in width. Sew on buttons.

HAT:

Circumference of the hat: 47-50-51 (52-54) cm

Hat: Cast on 94-100-102 (104-108) sts on smaller double pointed needles with dark gray; join and place a marker at the join. Knit 3 cm seed st. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 2 (refer to chart in Små Drops No. 6) as on the body, start at the arrow for the two smallest sizes. After Pattern 2 finish knitting with dark gray until the work measures 20-23-24 (25-25) cm . Bind off all sts. Lay the hat flat and sew the top together from side to side. Make 2 tassels in natural and sew one onto each corner.

Lining: For children who itch when they wear wool garments next to the skin you can knit a cotton lining on the inside of the hat. Cast on and knit as in the pattern with Muskat. Bind off after 8 cm . Sew the lining into the inside of the hat.

Bon tricot!
