Pattern instructions

Knitting Tension: 20sts x 26 rows stocking st on needles size 4 mm = 10x10cm.

Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 repeat). Pattern is seen from RS and worked in stocking st.

Jacket is knitted on circ needle after the hem and armhole and centre front is then cut open. Cast on 190 (196-204) sts on long circ needle size 2.5mm with plum. Work hem back and forth on needle as follows: 3 cm in stocking st, P 1 row (=fold – all measurements are taken from here), K1 row, change to dark grey and work 3 cm in stocking st. Change to circ needle size 4mm and inc 38 (44-48) sts evenly on first round knitting in the round, and at the same time inc 5 sts centre front (these sts are for cutting open at the end and are not worked in pattern) = 228 (240-252) sts. (+ 5 sts). When piece measures 3 (4-5) cm work pattern M.1. Remember to check your tension. At the same time when piece measures 32 (32-33) cm, inc 5 sts each side for armhole (these sts are for cutting later and are not knitted in pattern).
When piece measures 53 (54-55) cm cast off centre 14(14-16) sts ( + 5) sts for cutting) for front neck. Continue as follows knitting back and forth on needle. Dec for neck on every other row, 4 sts twice, 2 sts twice, 1 st twice.
At the same time when piece measures 59 (60-61) cm cast off centre 38 (38-40) sts for back neck. Dec 2 sts each side on next row on neck edge.
Continue until piece measures 61 (62-63) cm (or to match pattern repeat). Cast off.

Cast on 46 (48-48) sts on short circ needle size 2.5mm with plum and work hem as on body. Change to short circ needles size 4 mm, and at the same time inc 12 (12-12) sts evenly on first round = 58 (60-60) sts.
Continue working pattern as on body (making sure to place 1 repeat on top of sleeve)at the same time when piece measure 5 (5-5) cm inc underneath sleeve as follows: 2 sts 29 (30-30) times alternatively every 3rd and 4th round* = 116 (120-120) sts.
Continue until piece measures 46(46- 46) cm (adjust to pattern repeat), work 1 cm stocking st in wine, then 2 cm reverse stocking st. Cast off.

Assembly: Mark the middle of the increased stitches each side and centre front with a thread. Sew two machine seams each side of the thread ½ stitch away from thread, then ½ stitch from first seam. Cut open for armhole and centre opening along the marking thread. Sew shoulder seams. Fold hems to WS at bottom of body and sleeve and sew. Pick up approx 100 sts along left front with dark grey on needle 2.5mm and work 3 cm in stocking st back and forth on needle, change to plum, work 1 row stocking st, P1 row, 3 cm in stocking st. Cast off. Repeat along right front, but after 1 cm work 5 buttonholes evenly spaced. 1 buttonhole = cast off 2 sts, cast on 2 sts on next row over the cast off sts (Remember button hole on folded edge). Fold edges to WS over the cut edge and sew. Pick up approx 110 sts around neck on needle 2.5mm with dark grey and work 2.5 cm hem back and forth on needle. Cast off and fold to WS and sew. Insert sleeves into body RS facing as follows: sew alternatively 1 stitch in arm facing and 1 stitch in the body other side of machined seam. Turn jacket inside out and sew sleeve facing over the cut edge on the body by hand. Sew on buttons.
