Buttons: If buttons are desired instead of a zipper:
Pick up approx. 48-56 sts along the left front on smaller needles with green and knit rib for 3 cm , bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 1 cm make 4 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row (1 buttonhole = bind off 1 st and inc 1 new st over the bound-off st on the next row).

Body: Cast on 142 (154) sts (including 1 edge st at each side worked in garter st throughout) on smaller circular needles with blue and knit 2 rows stockinette st. Change to larger circular needles and place a marker each side as follows: 36 (39) sts for the front, 70 (76) sts for the back, 36 (39) sts for the front. Knit stockinette st with blue. At the same time, inc 1 st each side of each marker 3 (3) times every 21 rows) = 154 (166) sts. When the work measures 16 cm , knit stripe Pattern, then knit the rest with olive. When the work measures 25 (24) cm , knit the next row as follows: 38 (41) sts for the front, bind off 2 sts for armhole, 74 (80) sts for the back, bind off 2 sts for armhole, 38 (41) sts for the front. Front: = 38 (41) sts. Bind off for armholes every other row: 2 sts 2 (2) times, 1 st 1 (2) times = 33 (35) sts. When the work measures 38 cm , bind off for the neck every other row: 3 (4) sts 1 time, 2 sts 2 times, 1 st 4 times. Bind off when the work measures 50 cm .

Back: = 74 (80) sts. Bind off for armholes as on the front = 64 (68) sts. When the work measures 48 cm , bind off the center 16 (18) sts for the neck. Bind off 2 sts at each neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures 50 cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 32 (34) sts (including 1 edge st at each side worked in garter st throughout) on smaller needles with blue and knit 2 rows stockinette stitch. Change to larger needles and knit stockinette stitch with blue. When the work measures 6 cm , inc 1 st at each side inside the edge sts 20 (20) times alternately every 4th and every 5th row = 72 (74) sts. When the work measures 45 (44) cm , put 2 sts at each side on a stitch holder. Then put sts on a stitch holder at each side for sleeve caps every other row: 3 (2) sts 8 (9) times. Put all sts back on the needles and knit 4 rows green. Bind off. The work measures approx. 52 cm .
