Gauge: 23 sts and 30 rows on larger needles in pattern = 10 x 10 cm .

Border: Knit 2 cm in stockinette st, purl 1 row (for folding edge, measure the work from here), knit
2 cm in stockinette st.

Pattern: See charts (1 chart = 1 repeat). The pattern is seen from the right side and is knit entirely in stockinette st. Arrows indicate the starting points for different sizes.

Body: The cardigan is knit in the round on circular needles (after the folding edge) with steeks cut for armholes and at the center front afterwards. Cast on 257 (272-287) sts on smaller circular needles with pistachio and knit Border (see above). Change to larger circular needles. Cast on 3 sts at the center front and join. The three cast on sts plus the 2 edge sts are for the center front steek and are not knit into the Pattern. Begin Pattern 1 at the arrow on the diagram after the 5 steek sts at the center front. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 to finished dimensions. (The turquoise sts, if you wish, can be embroidered or duplicate stitched afterwards.)
When the work measures 31 (33-34) cm , knit the next row as follows: 5 steek sts at the center front, knit 62 (65-66) sts for the front, bind off 4 (6-10) sts, knit 123 (128-133) sts for the back, bind off 4 (6-10) sts, knit 62 (65-66) sts for the front. On the next row cast on 5 sts over the bound-off sts each side for the armhole steeks. These sts are not knit into the Pattern. Dec1 st for armholes each side of the 5 steek sts each side every other row 1 (3-4) times, then every 4th row 1 (2-2) times.

Front: 120 (120-120) sts + 5 sts. Back = 119(118-121) sts. When the work measures approx. 46 (48-50) cm and adjusting for complete pattern, bind off the center front 42 (46-42) sts + 5 steek sts for the neck. Approx. 10 cm of the work remains; knit the rest back and forth on needles. When the work measures 54 (56-58) cm , bind off the center back 37 (40-39) sts for the neck. Then bind off 2 sts at each back neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approx. 56 (58-60) cm , adjusting for complete pattern if necessary.

Sleeves: Cast on 56 (58-58) sts on smaller double pointed needles with pistachio. Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join and knit Border. Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 1, centering the pattern o n the sleeve.
When the work measures 6 cm inc 1 st each side of the marker 30 (29-31) times:
Sizes S + M: alternately every 3rd and 4th row.
Size L: every 3rd row.
= 116 (116-120) sts. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 to finished dimensions, centering the pattern on the sleeve.
When the work measures 44.5 (43.5-43) cm , put 4 (6-8) sts each side of the marker on a st holder and knit the rest back and forth on the needles. Put sts on st holder for sleeve caps each side every other row: 6 (4-3) sts 6 (9-11) times.
Put all sts from the holders back on the double pointed needles and knit 2 cm in reverse stockinette st for the seam allowance over the cut steek edge on the body. Bind off.

Assembly: Sew a marker thread down into the center of the steek sts each side and at the center front. Sew two machine seams each side of the marker thread 1/2 st from the marker thread to each side. Cut up the center thread for armholes and at the center front. Sew shoulder seams.
Pick up approx. 100-110 sts along the left front on smaller circular needles with brown and knit 2.5 cm stockinette st, purl 1 row (for folding edge), knit 2.5 cm stockinette st. Bind off. Repeat along the right front, but after 0.5 cm make 8 buttonholes evenly distributed on the row. 1 buttonhole = bind off 2 sts and cast on 2 new sts over the bound-off sts on the next row (make corresponding buttonholes on the folding edge). Place the top buttonhole 0.5 cm from the top edge.
Pick up approx. 130-140 sts around the neck on smaller double pointed needles with brown. Place a marker in each corner of the neck in the front. Knit Border and at the same time dec 1 st each side of the marker every other row 3 times. Dec as follows: Before the marker: K 2 tog, after the marker: slip 1, K 1, pass slipped st over. After the folding edge inc each side of the markers corresponding to the decreases. Bind off.
Sew the sleeves to the body as follows: Sew alternately a st in the last row on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a st on the body after the machine seam. Turn the cardigan inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut steek edge on the body by hand. Sew on the buttons.
