BODY
Cardigan is knit in the round with steeks at the underarms.
Cast on 224-238-252 (238-252-266) sts on smaller circular needles with burgundy (wine red) and join being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the beginning of the first row. Knit 4 cm stockinette stitch, change to mustard and purl 1 row for folding edge. Measure the work from here. Change to larger circular needles and knit Pattern 1. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 and repeat it upwards to finished dimensions.
When the work measures 30-30-31 (30-30-31) cm (Long Model: 47-51.5- 53 cm begin binding off for the armholes making sure that one pattern repeat is centered at the middle front as follows: Bind off 5-6-7 (6-7-8) sts at the beginning of the row for armhole. Knit 102-107-112 (107-112-117) sts for the front. Bind off 10-12-14 (12-14-16) sts for the second armhole. Knit 102-107-112 (107-112-117) sts for the back. Bind off 5-6-7 (6-7-8) sts for armhole.
On the next row increase 5 sts on both sides over the bound-off sts (these sts are for the steek and will be cut afterwards and are not knitted into the pattern). Shape armholes by decreasing on either side of the 5 steek sts every row, 1 stitch 4-5-5 (4-5-5) times. Then on every other row 1 stitch 3-4-5 (3-4-4) times; and then on every 4th row, 1 stitch 3-3-4 (3-2-3) times. 82-83-84 (87-90-93) sts remain on the front and on the back.
When the work measures 45-46-47 (45-46-47) cm (18», 18-1/8», 18.75») (Long Model: 62-66-69 cm bind off the middle 18-19-20 (19-20-21) sts at the center front for the neck. Knit the rest of the work back and forth on the needle binding off for the neck on every other row, 3 sts 1 (1) time, 2 sts 1 (1) time, and 1 stitch 2 (3) times.
When the work measures 51-52-53 (51-52-53) cm (20», 20.5», 20-7/8»), (Long Model: 68-71.5-75 bind off 28-29-30 (31-32-33) sts at the center back for the neck and then 2 sts on either side of neck edge on the next row. Bind off when the work measures approximately 53-54-55 (53-54-55) cm . (Long Model: 70.5 74-77) cm .

Sleeves: Cast on 48-50-50 (52-56-56) sts on smaller double pointed needles with burgundy (wine red). Join, being careful not to twist the sts. Place a marker at the join. Knit 3.5 cm in stockinette stitch. Change to mustard and purl 1 row (for folding edge. Measure the work from here). Change to larger double pointed needles and knit Pattern 1. After Pattern 1 knit Pattern 2 and repeat it to finished dimensions making sure that the repeat is centered on the sleeve.
When the work measures 5 cm , increase on either side of the marker as follows: 2 sts 23-23-25 (26-25-26) times
Small and Medium, every 4th row.
For Large, alternately every 3rd and 4th row.
Total of 94-96-100 (104-106-108) sts.
When the work measures 43-42-42 (44-43-43) cm , put 4 (5) sts on either side of the marker on a holder. Continue to put sts on a holder for sleeve tops on either side on every other row as follows: 3 sts 2 (2) times, 2 sts 1 (2) times, 1 stitch 10-12-13 (9-11-12) times, 2 sts 1-2-2 (2-2-2) times, 4 sts 2 (2) times. The work will measure approximately 55-56-57 (56-56-57) cm .
Put all sts back on the needle and knit 2 cm in reverse stockinette stitch back and forth on the needle, turning at the marker, for a seam allowance to sew over the cut steek sts of the body. Bind off loosely.

Assembly: Sew a marker thread down the middle and on either side of the 5 steek sts. Sew two machine seams on either side of the center marker thread with the 1st seam 1/2 stitch from the center marker thread, and the 2nd seam 1/2 stitch from the other side of the center marker thread. Cut up for armholes. Sew shoulder seams.
Pick up approximately 94-100 (102-110) sts along the neck on smaller double pointed needles with burgundy (wine red) and knit Pattern 3, continue with mustard and purl 1 row (for folding edge), change back to burgundy (wine red) and knit 3 cm in stockinette stitch. Bind off.
Fold all edges over against the wrong side and sew. Sew the sleeves to the body from the right side as follows: Sew alternately a stitch in the last row of plain knitting on the sleeve before the seam allowance and a stitch on the body after the machine seam. Turn the sweater inside out and sew the seam allowance from the sleeve over the cut steek sts by hand.
