------------------------------------------------------- EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN: ------------------------------------------------------- PATTERN: See diagram A.1. INCREASE TIP (evenly spaced): To work out how to increase evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g. 76 stitches) and divide by the number of increases to be made (e.g. 12) = 6.3. In this example, increase by making 1 yarn over after approx. each 6th stitch. On the next round work the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. DECREASE TIP (for sleeves): Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch as if to knit, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). ------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- SWEATER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The neck and yoke are worked in the round with circular needle, from mid back and top down. The yoke is divided for body and sleeves and the body is continued in the round with circular needle. The sleeves are worked with double pointed needles, top down. Be aware that all stitch-counts on the yoke and body are based on A.1 being 16 stitches, but A.1 alternates between 16 and 17 stitches. If you have just worked round 1-2-5 or 6 in A.1 when the stitch-count is given, you will have 4 more stitches on your needle. NECK: Cast on 76-80-84-88-92-96 stitches with circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and Paris. Knit 1 round, then work rib (knit 2, purl 2) in the round for 3 cm = 1 1/8". Knit 1 round where you increase 12-8-12-8-8-4 stitches evenly spaced – read INCREASE TIP = 88-88-96-96-100-100 stitches. YOKE: Change to circular needle size 5 mm = US 8. On the first round work as follows – from mid-back: 1-1-2-2-3-3 stitches in stockinette stitch, make 1 yarn over, work A.1 (= 16 stitches) (= 1/2 back piece), 1 yarn over, work 10-10-12-12-12-12 stitches in stockinette stitch, 1 yarn over (= sleeve), work A.1, 1 yarn over, work 2-2-4-4-6-6 stitches in stockinette stitch, 1 yarn over, work A.1, (= front piece), 1 yarn over, work 10-10-12-12-12-12 stitches in stockinette stitch, 1 yarn over (= sleeve), work A.1, 1 yarn over, work 1-1-2-2-3-3 stitches in stockinette stitch (= 1/2 back piece). There are 96-96-104-104-108-108 stitches on the round (8 stitches increased and the first increase to raglan is finished). Continue this pattern onwards and increase on each side of A.1 every 2nd round (= 8 stitches increased on each increase-round). The yarn overs are knitted twisted and then worked in stockinette stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING GAUGE! Increase a total of 18-22-23-27-28-33 times. There are now 232-264-280-312-324-364 stitches on the needle. Continue working until the piece measures 18-22-23-27-28-33 cm = 7"-8 3/4"-9"-10 5/8"-11"-13" without further increases. The next round is worked as follows: Work 35-39-41-45-47-52 stitches as before (= half back piece), place the next 46-54-58-66-68-78 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work the next 70-78-82-90-94-104 stitches as before (= front piece), place the next 46-54-58-66-68-78 stitches on 1 thread for the sleeve, cast on 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches (in side under sleeve), work the last 35-39-41-45-47-52 stitches as before (= half back piece). Body and sleeves are finished separately. THE PIECE IS NOW MEASURED FROM HERE! BODY: = 152-168-180-196-208-232 stitches. Continue in the round, with stockinette stitch and A.1, until the piece measures 30-28-28-26-27-24 cm = 11 3/4"-11"-11"-10 1/4"-10 5/8"-9 1/2" from the division. There is approx. 5 cm = 2" left to finished length; try the sweater on and work to desired length. Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm = US 7 and work rib (purl 2, knit 2) for 5 cm = 2", bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sweater measures approx. 56-58-60-62-64-66 cm = 22"-22 3/4"-23 5/8"-24 3/8"-25 1/4"-26" from the shoulder down. SLEEVES: Place the 46-54-58-66-68-78 stitches from the thread on the one side of the piece on double pointed needles/short circular needle size 5 mm = US 8 and knit up 1 stitch in each of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches cast on under the sleeve = 52-60-66-74-78-90 stitches. Insert a marker in the middle of the 6-6-8-8-10-12 stitches under the sleeve. Allow the thread to follow your work onwards; it will be used when decreasing under the sleeve. Start the round at the marker and work stockinette stitch in the round. When the piece measures 3-3-3-3-2-2 cm = 1 1/8"-1 1/8"-1 1/8"-1 1/8"-3/4"-3/4" from the division decrease 2 stitches under the sleeve - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease every 7-4½-3-2-2-1½ cm = 2 3/4"-1 5/8"-1 1/8"-3/4"-3/4"-1/2" a total of 6-8-11-13-15-17 times = 40-44-44-48-48-56 stitches. Continue working until the sleeve measures 39-36-36-32-32-27 cm = 15 1/4"-14 1/4"-14 1/4"-12 1/2"-12 1/2"-10 5/8" from the division, or to desired length; there is approx. 5 cm = 2" left to finished length (shorter measurements in larger sizes due to longer yoke). Change to double pointed needles size 4.5 mm = US 7 and work rib (knit 2, purl 2) for 5 cm = 2". Bind off with knit over knit and purl over purl. The sleeve measures approx. 44-41-41-37-37-32 cm = 17 1/4"-16 1/8"-16 1/8"-14 1/2"-14 1/2"-12 1/2". Work the other sleeve in the same way. |
