Bon tricot!

------------------------------------------------------- START THE PIECE HERE: ------------------------------------------------------- PUMPKIN – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE: The piece is worked in English rib, back and forth for 2 rows then continued in the round. To finish, either a stalk is worked or an opening where a cinnamon-stick can be inserted. The piece is filled with wadding. PUMPKIN: Cast on 11-15-19 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and colour Brick Red/Rust DROPS Lima, leaving a strand-end of approx. 15 cm which is used when assembling later. ROW 1 (wrong side): Purl 2, * make 1 yarn-over, purl 1 *, work from *-* to end of row. ROW 2 (right side): Knit, knit the yarn-overs twisted = 20-28-36 stitches. Now continue in the round from the right side, dividing the stitches with 5-7-9 stitches on each double pointed needle and working as follows: ROUNDS 3 and 4: * Purl 1, knit 1 *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 5: * Purl 1, make 1 yarn-over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 6: * Make 1 yarn-over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, knit together the next yarn-over and slipped stitch *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 7: * Purl together the next stitch and yarn-over, make 1 yarn-over, slip 1 stitch purl-wise *, work from *-* to end of round. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. Repeat ROUNDS 6 and 7 until you have worked 20-28-36 rounds of English rib (= 10-14-18 visible knitted stitches in height), finishing with round 7. You can either finish the pumpkin with an I-cord stalk or make an opening for a cinnamon-stick at the top – read STALK or OPENING FOR CINNAMON-STICK below. STALK: Change to colour Brown and work as follows: ROUND 1: * Knit 1, knit together the next stitch and yarn-over *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 2: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 10-14-18 stitches. ROUND 3: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5-7-9 stitches. ROUND 4: Knit 1, knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 3-4-5 stitches. You now no longer work in the round. Place the stitches on one double pointed needle and work back and forth as follows: * Push all the stitches to the right-hand end of the needle without turning, tighten the strand and knit the row *, work from *-* until the stalk measures 2 cm. Cut the strand, thread it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten. Fill the pumpkin with wadding. Tack the strand-end from the beginning of the project through the stitches from the cast-on edge, tighten the strand and fasten well. OPENING FOR CINNAMON-STICK: Work an opening for a cinnamon stick as follows: ROUND 8: * Knit 1, knit together the next stitch and the yarn-over *, work from *-* to end of round. ROUND 9: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 10-14-18 stitches. Cut the strand, leaving a strand-end of 20 cm lang. Thread the strand-end through the remaining stitches and tighten, making sure the opening is big enough for the cinnamon stick. Fasten the strand. Fill the pumpkin with wadding. Tack the strand-end from the beginning of the project through the stitches from the cast-on edge, tighten the strand and fasten well. Insert the cinnamon-stick into the hole at the top of the pumpkin. |
