Length: Approx. 30-34-38-40-40 cm with ribbed edge folded up.

MATERIALS:
DROPS AIR from Garnstudio (belongs to yarn group C)
50-50-50-50-50 g colour 25, raspberry
50-50-50-50-50 g colour 01, off white

KNITTING TENSION:
18 stitches in width and 23 rows in height with stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.

NEEDLES:
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4.5 MM.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4.5 MM: Length 40 cm for stocking stitch.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4 MM: Length 40 cm for rib.
Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

DECREASE TIP-1 (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g. 96 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g. 12) = 8. 
In this example decrease by knitting each 7th and 8th stitch together.

DECREASE TIP-2:
Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker, knit 2 together (= 1 stitch decreased). Repeat at each of the other markers.

START THE PIECE HERE:

SANTA HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, from the rib and up to the top of the hat. Change to double pointed needles when necessary.

SANTA HAT:
Cast on 76-80-84-88-92 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and off-white. Knit 1 round. Then work rib (= knit 2/ purl 2) for 4-4-6-8-8 cm.
Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm and knit 1 round where you decrease 12-12-12-12-12 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP-1 = 64-68-72-76-80 stitches.
Change to raspberry and continue with stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 14-14-16-17-18 cm from the cast-on edge, decrease 4-2-0-4-2 stitches evenly spaced = 60-66-72-72-78 stitches.
Now insert 6 markers in the piece with 10-11-12-12-13 stitches between each marker. On the next round decrease 1 stitch before each marker – read DECREASE TIP-2 (= 6 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 2-2-2-2-2 times. Then decrease every 5th-5th-6th-6th-5th round a total of 6-7-8-8-9 times = 12 stitches on the needle.
Work until the piece measures a total of 32-36-41-44-44 cm, then knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6 stitches left. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
Fold the rib up approx. 2-2-3-4-4 cm. The hat measures approx. 30-34-38-40-40 cm.

POM POM:
Make a pom pom of approx. 5 cm in diameter using off white. Sew the pom pom to the top of the hat.
