-------------------------------------------------------

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

CHAIN STITCH:
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 half-treble crochet is wide.

CROCHET INFORMATION:
The first half-treble crochet on the row is replaced by 2 chain stitches.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 and A.x (diagram A.x shows how the rounds begin and end).

-------------------------------------------------------

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

HEAD BAND – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is first worked back and forth sideways (around the head), then finished in the round along the top of the band.

HEAD BAND:
Using crochet hook size 6 mm and Snow, work 9-10-11-12 chain stitches – read CHAIN STITCH in explanations above.
ROW 1: Start in the 3rd chain stitch from the hook and work 1 half-treble crochet in each chain stitch on the row = 8-9-10-11 half-treble crochets. Read CROCHET INFORMATION.
ROW 2: Work 1 half-treble crochet in each half-treble crochet; work only in the back loop. Turn.
Repeat ROW 2 onwards, always working in the back loop.
REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!
Continue working like this until the piece measures 44-46-47-48 cm when slightly stretched – try the head band on. Leave a strand-end of 20 cm when cutting the strand. Sew the last row to the chain stitches at the beginning of the piece. Now work an edge along the top as follows.

EDGE:
ROUND 1: Fasten the strand with 1 slip stitch around the outermost half-treble crochet in the first row next to the seam mid-back. Now work a round with chain-spaces along the outermost stitches of the head band, it is important that the number of chain-spaces are divisible by 2 when working the next rounds.
Work as follows: 1 double crochet, * 3 chain stitches, skip forward 2½ to 3 cm, 1 double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round and finish with 3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet. Work slip stitches to the middle of the first chain-space. The next round starts here.
ROUND 2: Work 1 double crochet around the first chain-space, * 3 chain stitches, 1 double crochet around the next chain-space *, work from *-* to end of round and finish with 3 chain stitches and 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet. The number of chain-spaces remains the same.
Now work 2 rounds according to diagram A.1; diagram A.x shows how the rounds begin and end.
Work the diagram 1 time in height.
Cut the strand, pull it through the last stitch and fasten well.
