----------------------------------------------------------
EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:
----------------------------------------------------------
INCREASE TIP:
Work until 1 stitch remains before marker, 1 yarn over (= 1 stitch increased), work 2 stitches (marker is between these stitches), 1 yarn over (= 1 stitch increased).
Repeat this at both markers (= 4 stitches increased).
On next round work yarn overs twisted to avoid holes.
Work the increased stitches in stocking stitch.
DECREASE TIP (applies to inside of legs):
Begin 3 stitches before marker and knit 2 together, knit 2 (marker is between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked.
CAST-OFF TIP:
To avoid a tight cast-off edge you may use a larger needle size. If this also is too tight, work a 1 yarn over after approx. every 4th stitch while casting off (cast off yarn overs as regular stitches).

START THE PIECE HERE:
----------------------------------------------------------
PANTS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Worked in the round on circular needle, top down. Divide the pants into 2 legs and then work piece in the round on double pointed needles.
PANTS:
Cast on 116 (124-128-136-144-152) stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Knit 1 round. Then work rib = knit 2/purl 2.
When rib measures 2½ cm, work a round with eyelet holes for tie as follows:
* Knit 2 together, 1 yarn over, purl 2 *, work from *-* until 4 (4-0-0-0-0) stitches remain, knit 2 (2-0-0-0-0) stitches and purl 2 (2-0-0-0-0) stitches (= 28 (30-32-34-36-38) holes).
Continue with rib until piece measures 5 cm.
Switch to circular needle size 4 mm and work an elevation at the back of pants as explained below.
To get a better fit work the pats higher at the back than at the front. This is done by working short rows back and forth as follows: Insert 1 marker at beginning of round = mid back.
Begin from right side and knit 7 (7-8-8-9-9) stitches past marker. Turn, tighten yarn and purl 14 (14-16-16-18-18) Turn, tighten yarn and knit 21 (21-24-24-27-27). Turn, tighten yarn and purl 28 (28-32-32-36-36) Turn, tighten yarn and knit 35 (35-40-40-45-45). Turn, tighten yarn and purl 42 (42-48-48-54-54) Turn, tighten yarn and knit 49 (49-56-56-63-63). Turn, tighten yarn and purl 56 (56-64-64-72-72) Turn piece, tighten yarn and knit until marker mid back.
Insert 1 marker after 58 (62-64-68-72-76) stitches from marker mid back (= mid front). I.e. there is now 1 marker mid back and 1 marker mid front.
Work in stocking stitch in the round.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When pants measures 17 (18-19-20-20-21) cm from cast-on edge mid front, increase 1 stitch on each side of marker mid front and mid back threads - read INCREASE TIP and increase as follows:
Increase every other round 6 (6-6-6-7-7) times in total = 140 (148-152-160-172-180) stitches.
When pants measures 21 (22-23-24-25-26) cm from cast-on edge mid front, cast-off stiches as follows: Cast off 3 (3-3-3-4-4) stitches (= mid back), knit 64 (68-70-74-78-82) stitches, cast off 6 (6-6-6-8-8) stitches mid front, knit 64 (68-70-74-78-82) stitches and cast off the remaining 3 (3-3-3-4-4) stitches mid back. Cut the yarn. Slip stitches in one side of piece on 1 stitch holder and work leg as explained below. NOW MEASURE THE PIECE FROM HERE!
LEG:
= 64 (68-70-74-78-82) stitches.
Distribute stitches on 4 double pointed needles size 4 mm and work in stocking stitch in the round - insert 1 marker on the inside of leg.
When leg measures 2 cm, decrease 1 stitch on each side of marker - READ DECREASE TIP!
Decrease every 2 (2-3-3-3½-4) cm, 8 (9-10-11-12-12) times in total = 48 (50-50-52-54-58) stitches.
When leg measures 18 (23-31-38-44-52) cm (approx. 6 cm remain), knit 1 round and decrease 0 (2-2-0-2-2) stitches evenly = 48 (48-48-52-52-56) stitches.
Switch to double pointed needles size 3 mm and work rib = knit 2/purl 2 over all stitches.
Cast off by knitting when rib measures 6 cm - read CAST-OFF TIP. Leg measures approx. 24 (29-37-44-50-58) cm from where stitches were cast off.
Slip stitches from the other leg on double pointed needles size 4 mm and work as first leg.
TIE:
Cut 2 lengths Merino Extra Fine yarn of 3½ metres. Twine the strands tog until they resist, fold the strands double so that they twine. Make a knot at each end. Beg mid front and thread tie up and down through eyelet row. Tie a bow mid front.
ASSEMBLY:
Sew the opening between legs together.
