Bee Happy

Knitted bee pants and crochet bee hat for baby and children in DROPS Snow. Piece is worked with stripes. Size 1 - 6 years.

PANTS:
Size: 1/2 – 3/4 – 5/6 years
Materials:
DROPS SNOW from Garnstudio
150-200-200 g colour no 02, black
100-100-150 g colour no 24, yellow

DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES AND CIRCULAR NEEDLE (60 or 80 cm) SIZE 7 mm - or size needed to get 12 sts x 16 rows in stocking st = 10 x 10 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES and CIRCULAR NEEDLE (60 cm) SIZE 6 mm - for rib.
ACCESSORIES: 4 BUTTONS, approx. diameter 20 mm. Some cotton wool to fill sting.

HAT:
Size: 1/2 - 3/4 - 5/6 - 7/8 years
Head circumference: 49-51-52-53 cm
Materials:
DROPS SNOW from Garnstudio
50-100-100-100 g colour no 02, black
50-100-100-100 g colour no 24, yellow
And use some left-over off white for eyes.

DROPS CROCHET HOOK SIZE 6 mm – or size needed to get 12 htr in width x 9 htr vertically = 10 x 10 cm.

STRIPE REPETITION:
Work * 4 rounds black and 4 rounds yellow *, repeat from *-*.

DECREASE TIP:
K 2 tog.

INCREASE TIP:
Inc by making 1 YO. K YO twisted on next round (i.e. work in back loop of st to avoid holes).

GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K all rows. 1 ridge = 2 rows K.

CROCHET TIP HTR:
Replace first htr on round with 2 ch. Finish every round with 1 sl st in 2nd ch from beg of round.

CROCHET TIP DC:
Replace first dc on round with 1 ch. Finish every round with 1 sl st in 1st ch from beg of round.

CROCHET 2 HTR TOG:
* Make 1 YO, insert hook in next st, get yarn *, repeat from *-* one more time, make 1 YO and pull yarn through all sts on hook.

PANTS:
Worked in the round on circular needle, waist down.
Piece is identical front and back. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
Cast on 64-68-72 sts on double pointed needles size 6 mm with black. Work rib K 2/P 2 and STRIPE REPETITION – READ EXPLANATION ABOVE, for 10-11-12 cm. Switch to circular needle size 7 mm and work in stocking st. Restart stripe repetition, AT THE SAME TIME on 1st round dec 10-8-6 sts evenly – READ DECREASE TIP = 54-60-66 sts. Insert 6 markers in the piece, 9-10-11 sts apart. On next round, inc 1 st on each side of every marker (= 12 inc per round) - READ INCREASE TIP. Repeat inc every other round 4 more times (= 5 times in total) = 114-120-126 sts. Continue until piece measures 24-27-30 cm. Now dec 1 st on each side of every marker (= 12 dec per round). Repeat dec every other round 3 more times (= 4 dec in total) = 66-72-78 sts. Keep first and fourth marker in piece (= mid front and mid back), remove the other markers. On next round inc 1 st on each side of each marker (= 4 inc per round). Repeat inc every other round 2 more times (= 3 times in total) = 78-84-90 sts. On next round cast off 4 sts mid front and mid back (i.e. 2 sts on each side of first and fourth marker) = 35-38-41 sts on each leg.

LEG:
Slip sts from one leg on 1 stitch holder and sts from the other leg on double pointed needles size 7 mm = 35-38-41 sts. Work in stocking st in the round on needles for 2 cm. Switch to double pointed needles size 6 mm. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME inc 1-2-3 sts evenly = 36-40-44 sts. Then work rib K 2/P 2 with black until rib measures approx. 6-7-8 cm. Then loosely cast off with K over K and P over P. Work the other leg the same way.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew tog the opening between the legs.

STRAPS:
Cast on 5 sts on double pointed needles size 6 mm with black. Work in GARTER ST - see explanation above - back and forth over sts on needle. When piece measures 5 cm, work a buttonhole as follows: K 1, K 2 tog, 1 YO, K 2. On next round K the YO to make a hole. Continue in garter st AT THE SAME TIME every 5 cm work a new buttonhole. Work until strap measures approx. 40 cm. Cast off. Knit another strap the same way. Fasten 4 buttons on the inside of pants, 2 on front piece and 2 on back piece. Fasten straps in buttons, front and back.

STING:
Cast on 3 sts on double pointed needles size 6 mm with black. Work in garter st back and forth on needle - AT THE SAME TIME inc with a YO inside edge st in each side on every other row, K YO twisted on next row to avoid holes. Work and inc like this until there are 27 sts in total on needle. Cast off all sts. Sew sting tog, sew in outer loops of edge sts in each side. Fill sting with some cotton wool and fasten mid back on pants.

HAT:
The piece is worked top down. Work 4 ch with black on hook size 6 mm and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. READ CROCHET TIP HTR.
ROUND 1: Work 8 htr in the ch-ring.
ROUND 2: Work 2 htr in every htr the entire round = 16 htr.
ROUND 3: Work 1 htr in first htr, * 2 htr in next htr, 1 htr in next htr *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 2 htr in last htr = 24 htr. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!
ROUND 4: Work 1 htr in each of the first 2 htr, * 2 htr in next htr, 1 htr in each of the next 2 htr *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 2 htr in last htr = 32 htr.
ROUND 5: Switch to yellow and work 1 htr in each of the first 3 htr, * 2 htr in next htr, 1 htr in each of the next 3 htr *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 2 htr in last htr = 40 htr.
ROUND 6: Work 1 htr in each of the first 4 htr, * 2 htr in next htr, 1 htr in each of the next 4 htr *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 2 htr in last htr = 48 htr.
Now work and inc differently in the different sizes.

ROUND 7: Switch to black and work as follows:
SIZE 1/2 - 3/4 years: Work 1 htr in every htr BUT at the same time inc evenly 4-6 htr on round = 52-54 htr.
SIZE 5/6 - 7/8 years: Work 1 htr in each of the first 5 htr, * 2 htr in next htr, 1 htr in each of the next 5 htr *, repeat from *-* the entire round and finish with 2 htr in last htr = 56 htr.

ROUND 8:
SIZE 1/2 - 3/4 - 5/6 years: Work 1 htr in every htr the entire round = 52-54-56 htr.
SIZE 7/8 years: Work 1 htr in every htr BUT inc evenly 2 htr on round = 58 htr.
Inc is now finished in all sizes, there are 52-54-56-58 htr on round.

ROUND 9: Switch to yellow and work 1 htr in every htr the entire round.
Repeat 9th round 6-7-8-9 more times = 15-16-17-18 rounds.

Switch to black and work 1 round with 1 htr in every htr the entire round. Then work an edge around the hat as follows: Work 5-5-6-6 dc, 1 htr, 11-11-11-12 tr, 1 htr, 15-17-18-18 dc (= mid front), 1 htr, 11-11-11-12 tr, 1 htr and finish with 6 dc. Fasten off.

DECORATION:

EYES:
Work 3 ch with black and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. READ CROCHET TIP DC.
ROUND 1: Work 6 dc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2: Work 2 dc in every dc the entire round = 12 dc.
ROUND 3: Switch to off white and work 1 sl st in back loop of every dc the entire round. Fasten off. Work another eye the same way. Sew eyes on to the front of hat in the middle of the yellow section.

ANTENNA:
Work 3 ch with black and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: Work 6 htr in the ch-ring.
ROUND 2: Work 1 htr in every htr the entire round.
ROUND 3: Work 1 htr in every htr but dec 1 st by WORKING 2 HTR TOG - see explanation above = 5 htr.
Then work in the round without finishing round as follows: 1 sl st in front loop of every st until antenna measures approx. 7 cm. Fasten off. Work another antenna the same way. Sew antennas on to each side of head in the black stripe.
