Repeat these 2 rows until 20 rows have been worked = 23 sts on row. Work 4 rows in stocking st without inc. Switch to camel Snow and work 4 rows in stocking st. Switch to off white Snow and work 2 rows in stocking st. Then work Santa's hat with red Snow as follows: Work 2 rows in stocking st. On next row (= RS), dec 1 st at the beg and end of row - read DECREASE TIP. P 1 row. Repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain on row. Work these 3 sts tog, but do not cut the yarn. Then work strap by working a st, * make 1 YO, cast off YO *, repeat from *-* until there are 12 sts in strap. Cut and fasten the yarn to form a loop.
Then work nose as follows with red: Cast on 1 st. K 1, 1 YO, K 1 in same st (= 3 sts), turn piece and P 1 row (P YO twisted). Work next row as follows: K 1, 1 YO, K 1, 1 YO, K 1 (= 5 sts). Repeat these 2 rows until 3 sts remain on row. K these 3 sts tog. Cut yarn and pull through last stitch.

ASSEMBLY:
Hair: Cut 24 lengths off white of approx. 12 cm each.
Put two strands together, use a yarn needle and thread strands down and up through the narrow off white stripe in the middle of Santa. Tie a knot. Repeat this 11 times along the stripe (= a total of 12 knots). Sew on the nose (in the middle of stripe with camel).

FELTING:
The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below.
Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment.

IN WASHING MACHINE:
Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet.
DO THE FOLLOWING:
Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme).
Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet.

IN TUMBLE DRYER:
Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet.
DO THE FOLLOWING:
Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly.
