FILLING TIP:
Gradually fill some cotton wool in the animal when working.
CROCHET TIP:
Beg every dc round with 1 ch (this does not replace first dc) and finish round with 1 sl st in first dc from beg of round.
Turn every dc row with 1 ch - this ch does not replace first dc on row.
DECREASE TIP:
DC: Insert hook in first st and pull thread through, insert hook in next st and pull thread through, make 1 YO and pull thread through all 3 sts on hook.
TR: Work 1 tr in next st but wait with last pull through, work next tr the same way. Make 1 YO and pull thread through all sts on hook.

SMALL ELEPHANT:
Piece is worked from back of body up to and with head and finally the trunk. Then work ears, legs and tail and fasten at the end. READ FILLING TIP!
BODY, HEAD AND TRUNK:
Work 4 ch with grey on hook size 3 mm and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch. READ CROCHET TIP!
ROUND 1: Work 6 dc in ch-ring - round beg mid under on elephant.
ROUND 2: Work 2 dc in every dc = 12 dc.
ROUND 3: Work * 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 18 dc.
ROUND 4: Work * 1 dc in each of the first 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 24 dc.
ROUND 5: Work * 1 dc in each of the first 3 dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* the entire round = 30 dc.
ROUND 6-17: Work 1 dc in every dc.
ROUND 18: Work the first 4 dc tog 2 by 2 – SEE DECREASE TIP, then work 1 dc in each of the next 22 dc, then work the last 4 dc tog 2 by 2 = 26 dc.
ROUND 19: Work the first 4 dc tog 2 by 2, then work 1 dc in each of the next 18 dc, then work the last 4 dc tog 2 by 2 = 22 dc.
ROUND 20: Work 1 dc in each of the first 20 dc, turn with 1 ch, then work back and forth in one for head.
ROW 21 (WS): Skip the first 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 15 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 22 (RS): Skip the first 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 12 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 23: Skip the first 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 9 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 24: Skip the first 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 6 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROW 25: Skip the first 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 3 dc, turn with 1 ch.
ROUND 26: Now work in the round again - work 26 dc around the entire opening.
ROUND 27: Work 1 dc in every dc.
ROUND 28: Work 1 dc in every dc while at the same time dec 6 dc evenly = 20 dc.
ROUND 29: Work 1 dc in every dc.
ROUND 30: Work as 28th round = 14 dc.
ROUND 31: Work 1 dc in every dc but work the 2 dc mid on top of head tog = 13 dc.
ROUND 32-35: Work every round as 31st round (= 9 dc after 35th round).
ROUND 36-38: Work 1 dc in every dc.
ROUND 39: Work 1 dc in every dc but work the 2 dc under the trunk tog = 8 dc.
ROUND 40-41: Work every round as 39th round (= 6 dc after 41st round).
Fasten off (do not tighten tip tog, the trunk should be open mid front).
EAR:
Make 2 ears in grey and 2 ears in light pink on hook size 4 mm as follows:
ROW 1: Work 7 ch, turn and work 1 tr in 3rd ch from hook, 1 tr in each of the next 4 ch = 5 tr and 3 ch.
ROW 2: Work 3 ch, 1 tr in first tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in next tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in last tr = 7 tr and 3 ch.
ROW 3: Work 3 ch, 1 tr in first tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in each of the next 3 tr, 2 tr in next tr, 1 tr in last tr = 9 tr and 3 ch.
ROW 4: Work 3 ch, 1 tr in first tr, work 2 tr tog – see DECREASE TIP, 1 tr in each of the next 3 tr, work 2 tr tog, 1 tr in last tr = 7 tr and 3 ch.
ROW 5: Work 3 ch, 1 tr in first tr, work 2 tr tog, 1 tr in next tr, work 2 tr tog, 1 tr in last tr = 5 tr and 3 ch.
ROUND 6: Work dc around the entire ear, do not turn piece. Beg with 1 ch and 2 dc in outermost tr from previous row, * 1 dc between next row, 2 dc in outermost tr or 3 ch from next row *, repeat from *-* 3 more times, 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 4 tr, 1 ch, 2 dc in outermost tr from next row, repeat from *-* 4 times, 1 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 4 tr and finish with 1 sl st in first ch from beg of round.
Place the ears towards each other with grey on top and pink under. Work them tog with grey as follows: 1 sl st in every dc on round, work through both layers but work only in back loop of sts on the top ears and only in front loop of sts on the ear behind. Sew ears to each side of head, 1st round = top of ear.
LEG:
Work 4 ch with grey and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 6 dc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2: 2 dc in every dc = 12 dc.
ROUND 3-7: 1 dc in every dc. Fasten off.
Work a total of 4 legs like this. Fill some cotton wool in them and sew them to the underside of body.
TAIL:
Work 7 ch with grey, then work 3 htr in 2nd ch from hook, then 1 sl st in each of the last 5 ch, fasten off and sew the tail to the back of body so that it hangs down.
IVORY:
Work 4 ch with off white, turn and work 1 sl st in 2nd ch from hook, then 1 dc in each of the last 2 ch. Fasten off. Work another ivory and sew them on each side of trunk.
Embroider eyes and mouth with black.

LARGE ELEPHANT:
Work as small elephant, but on hook size 4 mm with Paris. Replace medium grey with light light pink and replace light pink with shocking pink.
