CROCHET TIP:
Replace first dc on each round with 1 ch and finish each round with 1 sl st in ch from beg of round.
CROCHET 2 DC TOG:
Dec 1 dc as follows: Insert hook in dc and pull thread through, insert hook in next dc and pull thread through, make 1 YO and now pull thread through all 3 loops on hook.
--------------------------------------------------------
BOOK MARK:
First crochet the head, then continue with the body, the arms, feet, ears and snout. If not otherwise stated work with 1 thread and crochet hook size 2.5 mm.
HEAD:
Work 4 ch with medium brown and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 8 dc in ch-ring – see CROCHET TIP!
ROUND 2: 2 dc in each dc = 16 dc.
ROUND 3: * 1 dc in first dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* = 24 dc.
ROUND 4: * 1 dc in each of the first 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc *, repeat from *-* = 32 dc.
Work 8 rounds with 1 dc in each dc.
ROUND 13: * 2 dc, crochet 2 dc tog – see above *, repeat from *-* = 24 dc.
ROUND 14: * 1 dc, crochet 2 dc tog *, repeat from *-* = 16 dc.
ROUND 15: * crochet all dc tog 2 by 2 = 8 dc.
Fill a little cotton wool in the head, then crochet the opening tog at bottom edge by working 4 dc through both layers – do not cut the thread but continue with the body.
BODY:
Continue with medium brown back and forth in rows. Work 1 row with 2 dc in each dc = 8 dc. Then work 1 row with 2 dc and 1 dc alternately to end = 12 dc. Continue with 1 dc in each dc until body measures 4 cm. Now work stripes as follows: * 2 rows with light blue, 2 rows with off-white *, repeat from *-* until body measures a total of 22 cm, cut and fasten threads.
BRACES:
Crochet through the body with light blue from where the stripes start and up to shoulder: 1 row of ch approx ½ cm in from the edge each side.
ARM:
Work 4 dc with medium brown at the top along one side of body, then 4 dc on the back of these = a total of 8 dc. Continue in the round with 1 dc in each dc until arm measures 6 cm – do not cut thread but continue with hand.
HAND:
Work 1 round with 2 dc in each dc = 16 dc. Work 3 rounds with 1 dc in each dc, then 1 round working all dc tog 2 by 2. Cut the thread, fill a little cotton wool in the hand, tighten thread round remaining sts and fasten.
Crochet an arm + hand in the same way on the other side of body.
FOOT:
Work 4 ch with medium brown and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 6 dc in ch-ring
ROUND 2: 2 dc in each dc = 12 dc.
Continue in the round with 1 dc in each dc until foot measures approx 3 cm. Cut the thread, fill a little cotton wool in the foot, tighten thread round the opening and fasten.
Crochet 1 more foot in the same way. Sew the feet to the bottom of body with approx 1 cm between them and let them point outwards in opposite directions.
SNOUT:
Work 4 ch with medium brown and form a ring with 1 sl st in first ch.
ROUND 1: 4 dc in ch-ring.
ROUND 2: 2 dc in each dc = 8 dc.
Work 2 rounds with 1 dc in each dc.
Cut the thread, fill a little cotton wool in the snout and sew it to the middle of face.
EARS:
Work 6 ch with 2 threads medium brown and crochet hook size 2.5 mm. Work 1 dtr in second ch and then 1 dtr in first ch, cut threads.
Crochet 2 ears like this and sew them to the top of head – sew in the last dtr to make the ch row sit at the top of the ear.
FACE:
Embroider eyes and mouth with black.
