DROPS circular and double pointed needles size 2.5 and 3.5 mm - or size needed to obtain 23 sts x 30 rows in stocking st on needle size 4 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
DROPS button, 5 pcs.

Pattern: See diagram. The diagram shows the pattern from the RS and the entire pattern is worked in stocking st. English translations for the wording in diagrams are given at the bottom of this pattern and they are given in the vertical order in which they appear in the diagram.
Edge: Work 3cm stocking st, P 1 row (= folding edge, measure piece from here), 3 cm stocking st.

Body: The jacket is worked in the round on circular needle after the Edge and cut mid front afterwards. Cast on 226-236 sts on circular needle size 2.5 mm with navy blue and work Edge back and forth on needle. Change to circular needle size 3.5 mm and continue in M.1, at the same time inc 38-52 sts evenly on round + 5 sts mid front (these 5 sts are to be cut afterwards and are not included in pattern) = 264-288 + 5 sts mid front. After M.1 work M.3 and then continue in navy blue. Remember the knitting tension! When piece measures 27-28 cm divide the piece in 2 and complete each piece separately.
Back piece: = 132-144 sts. When piece measures 56-57 cm cast off the middle 46-46 sts for neck and cast off 2 sts on neckline on next row. Cast off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 57-58 cm.
Front piece: = 132-144 sts + 5 sts. When piece measures 36, 43 and 45 cm work M.2 as follows (as seen from RS): at 36 cm: 84-93 navy blue sts + 5 sts, M.2, 30-33 navy blue sts. At 43 cm: 98-107 navy blue sts + 5 sts, M.2, 16-19 navy blue sts. At 45 cm: 26-28 navy blue sts, M.2, 88-98 navy blue sts + 5 sts. Now complete piece in navy blue. When piece measures 51-52 cm cast off the middle 36-36 sts + 5 sts for neck and complete each side separately. Cast off to shape the neckline on every other row: 3 sts 1 time, 2 sts 1 time, 1 st 2 times. Cast off remaining sts on shoulder when piece measures 57-58 cm.
Sleeve: Cast on 52-56 sts on double pointed needles size 2.5 mm with navy blue and work Edge. Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and continue in M.1 (place a pattern repeat mid upper sleeve), at the same time inc 16-12 sts evenly on first round = 68-68 sts. At the same time after the Edge inc 2 sts mid under arm a total of 35-35 times on every * 3rd and 4th * round alternately = 138-138 sts. Incorporate the inc sts in pattern as you go along. After M.1, work M.3 and then complete piece in navy blue. When piece measures 47-47 cm cast off 10 sts mid under sleeve and complete piece back and forth on needle. Cast off to shape the sleeve cap each side on every other row: 8 sts 4 times. Cast off remaining sts when piece measures 50-50 cm.
Assembly: Insert a marking thread from top to bottom in the centre of the 5 sts mid front. Sew 2 seams on a sewing machine around the marking thread, 1st seam = ½ st from the MT, 2nd seam = ½ st from the 1st seam. Cut mid front. Sew the shoulder seams. Fold Edge at bottom of jacket double towards WS and fasten. Pick up approx 120 sts along left front piece on needle size 2.5 mm with navy blue and work M.3, P 1 row, 11 rows stocking st, cast off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Repeat along right front piece but after 1 cm make 5 buttonholes evenly distributed. 1 buttonhole = cast off 3 sts and cast on 3 new sts on return row – remember buttonholes on the piece in stocking sts to be folded towards WS! Pick up approx 112 sts round the neck on needle size 2.5 mm with navy blue and work M.3, P 1 row, 11 rows stocking st, cast off and fold edge double towards WS and fasten. Set in sleeves. Sew on buttons.
