Drops circular needles, long (80cm): 2.5mm and 4mm
Drops double pointed needles: 2.5mm and 4mm,
or the size needed to obtain the correct knitting tension.
Drops buttons: 5 pcs.

Knitting Tension: 20sts x 26 rows stocking st on needles size 4 mm = 10x10cm.

Hem: Work 3 cm in stocking st, P1 round (=fold – all measurements are taken from here), 3 cm in stocking st.

Pattern: See diagram (1 diagram = 1 repeat). Pattern is seen from RS, and worked in stocking st.

Body: Jacket is knitted on circ needle and armhole and centre front is then cut open. Cast on 190 (196-204) sts on long circ needle size 2.5mm with cream. Work hem back and forth on needle. Change to circ needle size 4mm and continue in stocking st , knitting in the round and at the same time inc 5 sts centre front (these sts are for cutting open at the end and are not worked in pattern) and at the same time inc 38 (44-48) sts evenly on first round = 228 (240-252) sts. Work pattern as follows: M.1, M.2, M.3, M.4, M.5, then finish in M.4. At the same time when piece measures 28 (29-29) cm, inc 5 sts each side for armhole (these sts are for cutting later and are not knitted in pattern). Remember to check your tension. Continue until piece measures 50 (51-51) cm, cast off 20 (20-22) sts (+ 5 sts) centre front for neck.
Continue as follows knitting back and forth on needle and dec for neck on every other row as follows: 3 sts twice, 2 sts twice, 1 st 3 times.
At the same time when piece measures 57 (58-58) cm cast off centre 42 (42-44) sts for back neck. Dec 2 sts each side of neck on next row. Continue until piece measures 58 (59-59) cm. Cast off.

Sleeves: Cast on 46 (46-48) sts on double pointed needles size 2.5mm with cream and work hem. Change to double pointed needles size 4 mm at the same time increase 12 (14-12) sts evenly on first round = 58 (60-60) sts. Work pattern as body (making sure to place 1 repeat of each pattern on top of sleeve). At the same time after the hem, inc underneath sleeve each side of centre st as follows: 1 st 31 (31-31) times, alternatively on every *3rd and 4th* round = 120 (122-122)sts. Continue until piece measures 50 (49-48) cm. Work 2 cm reverse stocking st. This is facing for the cutting edge on the body. Cast off.

Assembly: Mark the middle of the increased stitches each side and centre front with a thread. Sew two machine seams each side of the thread ½ stitch away from thread, then ½ stitch from first seam. Cut open for armhole and centre opening along the marking thread. Sew shoulder seams. Fold hems to WS at bottom of body and sleeves and sew. Pick up approx 106 sts along left front with cream on circ needle 2.5mm and work hem. Cast off. Fold to WS and sew. Repeat along right front , but after 1 cm work 5 buttonholes evenly spaced. 1 buttonhole = : cast off 2 sts, cast on 2 sts on next row over the cast off sts. Pick up approx 100 sts around neck on circ needle 2.5mm with cream and work hem for 2.5cm instead of 3cm. Cast off and fold to WS and sew. Insert sleeves into body RS facing as follows: sew alternatively 1 stitch in arm facing and I stitch in the body other side of machined seam. Turn jacket inside out and sew sleeve facing over the cut edge on the body by hand. Sew on buttons.
