Knitted headscarf / bandana in DROPS Cotton Merino. The piece is worked with lace pattern and I-cord.

SIZE:
Length: 46 cm (without cords). Height: 23 cm.

YARN:
DROPS COTTON MERINO from Garnstudio (belongs to yarn group B)
50 g colour 05, Powder Pink

NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4 MM: Length 60 cm.

KNITTING TENSION:
21 stitches in width and 28 rows in height with stocking stitch on needle size 4 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Remember, the needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get to few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN

GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side.
1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows.

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.10.
The diagrams show all rows in the pattern from the right side.

3 EDGE-STITCHES WITH I-CORD:
BEGINNING OF ROW:
Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1, work 1 garter stitch.
END OF ROW:
Work until there are 3 stitches left on the row, work 1 garter stitch, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with the strand in front, knit 1.
Work in the same way from both the right and wrong side.

I-CORD CAST OFF:
START (wrong side): When working the last row from the wrong side, cast on 2 stitches at the end of the row. Turn.
ROW 1 (right side):
Knit 1, knit 2 twisted together. Slip the 2 stitches from the right needle onto the left needle, do not turn (when working the strand tightens the piece into a small tube).
Repeat ROW 1 until there are 2 stitches left. Slip these 2 stitches onto the left needle. Cast off.

HEADSCARF – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked back and forth from the middle outwards. Cords are worked on each side to finish, which are used to fasten the headscarf.

HEADSCARF:
Cast on 7 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Cotton Merino.
Work back and forth (first row is worked from the wrong side):
ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 3 stitches according to EDGE-STITCHES WITH I-CORD – read explanation above, knit 1, work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord.
ROW 2 (right side): Work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord = 9 stitches.
ROW 3 (wrong side): Work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord, knit 3, work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord.
ROW 4 (right side): Work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, knit 1, make 1 yarn over, work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord = 13 stitches.
ROW 5 (wrong side): Work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord, knit 7, work 3 stitches according to edge-stitches with I-cord.

Continue with PATTERN – read explanation above, with the first row from the right side as follows:
3 edge-stitches as before, work A.1, then A.2 across 1 stitch (= mid-stitch), work A.3, then 3 edge-stitches as before. Insert 1 marker in the mid-stitch and allow it to follow your work onwards, making it easier to following the pattern.
Continue the diagrams. When they are finished there are 69 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Continue pattern as follows, with the first row from the right side:
3 edge-stitches as before, work A.4 across 4 stitches, then A.5, 5 times in width (there are 2 stitches left before the mid-stitch), work A.6 across 2 stitches, A.7 across 1 stitch (= mid-stitch), A.8 across 2 stitches, A.9, 5 times in width (there are 7 stitches left), work A.10 across 4 stitches and 3 edge-stitches as before.
Continue the pattern. When the diagrams are finished there are 121 stitches (the last row was from the wrong side).
Work I-CORD CAST-OFF – read explanation above. Cut and fasten the strand.
The piece measures approx. 46 cm along the long side and 23 cm measured along the mid-stitch. The scarf is a triangle. Cords are now worked, then fastened to each end of the long side.

CORDS:
Cut 6 strands of DROPS Cotton Merino, each 80 cm in length. Thread the strands halfway through the piece, outermost at one end of the long side, now with 12 strands of equal length. Divide the strands into 3 bunches of 4 and plait the bunches until there is 3 cm left. Tie a strand around the plait and fasten well. Work a second cord at the other end of the long side.
