SITTING MAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked back and forth in garter stitch, then felted to finish.
SITTING MAT:
Cast on 52-60 stitches with needle size 6 mm and DROPS Nepal.
Work GARTER STITCH – read explanation above. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
When the piece measures 34-40 cm, cast off with knit. Cut and fasten the strand.
FELTING:
The piece can either be felted in the washing machine or in the tumble dryer as explained below.
Remember: The piece is subsequently washed as a normal wool garment.
IN WASHING MACHINE:
Felting will vary in different washing machines. If the piece is not felted enough, you can felt it again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet.
FELT AS FOLLOWS:
Put the mat in the washing machine, using a 40 min. wash (not the wool programme).
Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash; detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while still wet.
IN TUMBLE DRYER:
Felting in the tumble dryer gives you good control of the felting process. The tumble dryer can be opened and the size of the piece checked. If the piece is not felted enough, you can wet it again and repeat the process. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet,
FELT AS FOLLOWS:
Lay the piece in water until it is thoroughly wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin drying. Felt to the desired size, checking every now and again.
