JUMPER FOR DOG – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
In this pattern needles of different length have been used, begin with fitting length for number of stitches and switch as needed. Piece is worked in the round, then divide for front legs and work back and belly piece back and forth separately. Slip parts together and work in the round down the body before casting off under belly and the rest of jumper is worked back and forth down towards tail. Work legs in the round on double pointed needles.
NECK EDGE:
Cast on 52-72-92 stitches on double pointed needles/circular needle size 3 mm with DROPS Fiesta. Work rib = knit 2/purl 2 for 8-9-10 cm.
YOKE:
Switch to double pointed needles/circular needle size 3.5 mm and knit 1 round while increasing 8-12-16 stitches evenly = 60-84-108 stitches. Insert a marker in piece, measure piece from here. Remember to follow the knitting tension!
Work in stocking stitch. When piece measures 4-6-8 cm, cast off for front legs as follows: Cast off 2 stitches, knit 10-12-14 and slip these stitches on a thread (= belly piece), cast off 2 stitches, and work the rest of round (back piece).
BACK PIECE:
= 46-68-90 stitches. Continue back and forth in stocking stitch until piece measures 6-8-10 cm from division. Slip stitches on a stitch holder.
BELLY PIECE:
Slip the 10-12-14 stitches from thread back on needle. Work in stocking stitch back and forth until piece measures 6-8-10 cm from division. On next row from right side put back piece and belly piece together for body as explained below:
BODY:
Work over belly piece as before, cast on 2 new stitches on needle, work over the 46-68-90 stitches on back piece as before and cast on 2 new stitches on needle = 60-84-108 stitches. Continue in the round in stocking stitch as before. When piece measures 14-20-26 cm from marker, cast off the 12-14-16 middle stitches under belly and continue piece back and forth = 48-70-92 stitches. Cast off at the beginning of every row in each side as follows: Cast off 2 stitches 1-2-3 times, 1 stitch 8-9-10 times, 2 stitches 1-2-3 times and 3 stitches 1-1-1 time = 18-30-42 stitches. Piece measures approx. 21-29-37 cm from marker (piece measures approx. 29-38-47 cm from cast-on edge).
ASSEMBLY:
Slip the remaining stitches on circular needle size 3 mm, pick in addition up stitches around the cast-off edge so that there are 84-108-140 stitches in total (number of stitches must be divisible 4). Work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) for 3 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Piece measures approx. 24-32-40 cm from marker and approx. 32-41-50 cm cast-on edge.
LEGS:
Use double pointed needles size 3 mm and pick up approx. 36 to 56 stitches around one opening for front leg (number of stitches must be divisible by with 4). Work rib in the round (= knit 2/purl 2) for 4-5-6 cm, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl.
