HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The pattern uses needles of different lengths; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary.
The earflaps are worked back and forth, then stitches are cast on between them and the hat is finished in the round. 2 small pom poms are worked to finish and sewn to the bottom of the earflaps.
If there is a «0» in your chosen size, skip the information and go straight to the next instruction.
EARFLAPS:
Cast on 3 stitches with double pointed needles size 4.5 mm, 1 strand DROPS Lima/DROPS Merino Extra Fine together with 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (2 strands). Read PATTERN in the explanations above. Work back and forth according to diagram A.1 until there is 1 row left in the diagram = 23-23-25 stitches. Cut the strand and lay the piece to one side.
Work 1 more earflap in the same way.
HAT:
With circular needle size 4 mm cast on 5-6-6 stitches (= back of neck), work the last row in diagram A.1 across the first earflap, cast on 27-29-29 (mid-front of hat), work the last row in diagram A.1 across the second earflap, cast on 6-7-7 stitches (= back of neck) = 84-88-92 stitches.
Continue in the round from mid-back. The piece is now measured from here.
Work A.2 21-22-23 times on the round.
Work A.3 – on the first round decrease 0-0-4 stitches evenly spaced, A.3 is worked 14-11-11 times on the round = 84-88-88 stitches.
Work 4 ridges – see GARTER STITCH above, NOTE! the first round is purled.
Continue with stocking stitch until the hat measures 12-13-14 cm from the join. There is approx. 10 cm left to finished length.
Decrease as follows:
ROUND 1: Knit and decrease 6 stitches evenly spaced.
ROUND 2: Knit.
Work ROUNDS 1 and 2 a total of 10 times. Make sure the decreases are not straight above each other = 24-28-28 stitches.
Continue as follows:
ROUND 1: Knit.
ROUND 2: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 12-14-14 stitches.
ROUND 3: Knit.
ROUND 4: Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 6-7-7 stitches.
Cut the strands, thread them through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The hat measures approx. 22-23-24 cm from the join.
POM POM:
Using 1 strand of each quality make 2 pom poms, each 2 cm in diameter. Sew 1 pom pom to the bottom of each earflap.
