NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4 mm: Length: 40 cm.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3 mm: Length: 40 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4 mm.
The technique MAGIC LOOP can be used – you then only need circular needle of 80 cm in each size.

KNITTING TENSION:
16 stitches in width and 40 rows vertically in English rib on needle size 4 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE! Remember that needle size is only a suggestion. If you have too many stitches on 10 cm switch to larger needles. If you have too few stitches on 10 cm switch to smaller needles.

EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:

ENGLISH RIB:
ROUND 1: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit 1 *, work from *-* the entire round.
ROUND 2: * Purl yarn over and the slipped stitch together, make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise *, repeat from *-* the entire round.
ROUND 3: * Make 1 yarn over, slip 1 stitch purlwise, knit yarn over and slipped stitch together *, repeat from *-* the entire round.
Repeat ROUND 2 and 3.

DECREASE TIP:
TOWARDS THE LEFT:
Work English rib as before until 2 stitches remain until knit stitch with marker.
Slip 1 knit (with yarn over) on to right needle as if to knit them together, knit the next 2 together (= purl stitch + knit stitch (yarn over)), pass loose knit stitch (with yarn over) over stitches worked together and move the marker to this stitch.
2 stitches have been decreased and knit stitch with marker continue nicely onwards.
TOWARDS THE RIGHT:
Work English rib as before until stitch with marker.
Slip 1 knit (with yarn over) on to right needle as if to knit them together, knit next stitch (purl stitch), pass loose knit stitch (with yarn over) over stitch worked. Then pass worked stitch on to left needle, pass next knit stitch (with yarn over) over this stitch. Then move worked stitch back on to right needle. Move the marker to this stitch.
2 stitches have been decreased, knit stitch with marker continue nicely onwards.

START THE PIECE HERE:

HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Piece is worked bottom up, work in the round on circular needle, switch to double pointed needles when needed.

HAT:
Cast on 88-96 stitches on circular needle size 3 mm with 1 strand DROPS Nord or 1 strand DROPS Alpaca and 1 strand DROPS Kid-Silk (= 2 strands).
Work rib in the round (= purl 1/knit 1) for 4 cm.
Switch to circular needle size 4 mm and work ENGLISH RIB - see explanation above.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! Work until piece measures 15-16 cm (approx. 8-9 cm remain until finished measurements). Insert 4 markers in piece - insert markers in a knit stitch so that there are 21-23 stitches between every marker. Adjust so that next round is the same as 3rd round in English rib, on next round begin decrease - read DECREASE TIP in explanation above, and work as follows:
Work English rib as before, decrease TOWARDS THE LEFT at every marker the entire round.
Continue in English rib and repeat decrease every 4th round, decrease alternately TOWARDS THE RIGHT/LEFT until 6-7 decreases have been done in total = 40-40 stitches.
Work 1 round in English rib without decrease.
Work 1 round where stitches and yarn overs are worked together as a regular rib without yarn overs.
Work 1 round rib.
Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = 20-20 stitches.
Knit 1 round.
Knit stitches together 2 by 2 = 10-10 stitches.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures approx. 23-25 cm.
