EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------
EDGE STITCHES I-CORD:
FIRST 2 STITCHES:
Work like this on all rows: Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1.
LAST 2 STITCHES:
Work like this on all rows: Work until there are 2 stitches left on the row, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with yarn in front, knit 1.
DECREASE TIP-1 (for sides):
Decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows:
Work until there are 4 stitches left before the marker-thread, knit 2 together, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch.
DECREASE TIP-2 (for armholes and neckline):
All decreases are worked from the right side!
BEGINNING OF ROW:
Work the 2 edge stitches as before, knit 2, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch.
END OF ROW:
Work until there are 6 stitches left on the row, knit 2 together, knit 2 and 2 edge stitches as before.
INCREASE TIP (for sides):
Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread.
Start 2 stitches before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), make 1 yarn over. On the next round work the yarn overs as follows:
BEFORE MARKER-THREAD:
Slip the yarn-over off the left needle and replace it twisted (insert the left needle through the back when replacing it). Knit through the front loop to avoid a hole.
AFTER MARKER-THREAD:
Knit through the back loop to avoid a hole.
Work the new stitches in stocking stitch.
I-CORD CAST-OFF:
Slip the 3 new stitches onto the left needle, with the working strand 3 stitches in on the needle (the strand tightens when working to form a small tube).
ROW 1 (right side): Knit 2, knit 2 twisted together. Slip the 3 stitches from the right needle onto the left needle. Do not turn.
Repeat ROW 1 until there are 3 stitches left on the right needle. Slip these 3 stitches onto the left needle. Cast off.
Sew a small stitch, joining the beginning and the end of the I-cord.

TOP - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately back and forth. The shoulder seams are sewn. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and an edge worked to finish.
BODY:
Cast on 172-190-202-220-246-268 stitches with circular needle size 4 mm and DROPS Paris. Work rib in the round (knit 1, purl 1) for 4 cm.
Change to circular needle size 5 mm. Knit 1 round and decrease 16-18-18-20-22-24 stitches evenly spaced = 156-172-184-200-224-244 stitches.
Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round and 1 marker-thread after 78-86-92-100-112-122 stitches (= sides). There are the same number of stitches between the marker-threads on both the front and back piece. Allow the marker-threads to follow your work onwards; they are used when decreasing and increasing each side. Continue with stocking stitch. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
When the piece measures 8 cm, decrease each side - read DECREASE TIP. Decrease like this every 4 cm a total of 2 times = 148-164-176-192-216-236 stitches.
When the piece measures 4 cm from the last decrease, increase each side - read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4 cm a total of 2 times = 156-172-184-200-224-244 stitches.
Work stocking stitch until the piece measures 27-28-29-30-31-32 cm.
Now cast off for the armholes as follows: Start 4-6-6-8-8-8 stitches before the first marker-thread, cast off 8-12-12-16-16-16 stitches, knit 70-74-80-84-96-106 (= back piece), cast off 8-12-12-16-16-16 stitches, knit 70-74-80-84-96-106 (= front piece).
The front and back pieces are finished separately.
FRONT PIECE:
= 70-74-80-84-96-106 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side.
Work stocking stitch back and forth with 2 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD – read description above, on each side. When you have worked 3 rows (next row from the right side), begin decreasing for the armholes – read DECREASE TIP-2.
Decrease every 4-4-4-4-2-2 rows a total of 5-6-8-10-15-19 times = 60-62-64-64-66-68 stitches. When the piece measures 41-43-45-45-47-49 cm from the cast-on edge, place the middle 18-20-22-22-24-26 stitches on a thread for the neckline and finish the shoulders separately = 21-21-21-21-21-21 shoulder-stitches. At the beginning of each row from the neck, decrease for the neckline – remember DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease 1 stitch a total of 3 times = 18-18-18-18-18-18 shoulder-stitches.
Continue with stocking stitch and 2 edge stitches by the armhole until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way.
BACK PIECE:
= 70-74-80-84-96-106 stitches. Purl 1 row from the wrong side.
Work stocking stitch back and forth with 2 edge stitches I-cord as on the front piece.
When you have worked 3 rows (next row from the right side), begin decreasing for the armholes – remember DECREASE TIP-2. Decrease every 4-4-4-4-2-2 rows a total of 5-6-8-10-15-19 times = 60-62-64-64-66-68 stitches. When the piece measures 44-46-48-50-52-54 cm, cast off the middle 22-24-26-26-28-30 stitches for the neckline and finish the shoulders separately= 19-19-19-19-19-19 stitches.
At the beginning of the next row from the neck, decrease 1 stitch for the neckline = 18-18-18-18-18-18 m shoulder-stitches.
Continue with stocking stitch and 2 edge stitches by the armhole until the piece measures 46-48-50-52-54-56 cm. Cast off. Work the other shoulder in the same way.
ASSEMBLY:
Sew the shoulder seams.
NECK:
Use circular needle size 5 mm. Start from the right side by one shoulder seam and knit up 56 to 78 stitches around the neckline (including the stitches on the thread mid-front). At the end of the round cast on 3 stitches, do not turn. Work I-CORD CAST-OFF – read description above.
