NEEDLES:

KNITTING TENSION:
15 stitches in width and 29 rows in height, with garter stitch and 2 strands on needle size 5.5 mm = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

GARTER STITCH (worked back and forth):
Knit all rows, from both the right and wrong side.
1 ridge in height = knit 2 rows.
3 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD:
FIRST 3 STITCHES:
Work as follows on all rows; Slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front.
LAST 3 STITCHES:
Work as follows on all rows: Work until there are 3 stitches left on the row, knit 1, slip 1 stitch purl-wise with strand in front, knit 1.
MEASURING TIP:
Due to the weight of the yarn and garter stitch, take all measurements when holding the piece up. This prevents the garment being too long when worn.
DECREASE TIP-1 (for armholes):
All decreases are worked from the right side!
BEGINNING OF ROW:
Work 3 edge stitches as before, 1 garter stitch, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased).
END OF ROW:
Work as before until there are 6 stitches left, knit 2 together, 1 garter stitch and 3 edge stitches as before (= 1 stitch decreased).
DECREASE TIP-2 (for neck):
All decreases are worked from the right side!
BEGINNING OF ROW:
Work 1 edge stitch in stocking stitch, 2 garter stitches, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1, pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (= 1 stitch decreased).
END OF ROW:
Work as before until there are 5 stitches left, knit 2 together, 2 garter stitches and 1 edge stitch in stocking stitch (= 1 stitch decreased).
INCREASE TIP (for sides of body):
Work 3 edge stitches as before, 1 garter stitch, make 1 yarn over, garter stitch until there are 4 stitches left, make 1 yarn over, 1 garter stitch and 3 edge stitches as before. On the next row knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes, then work the new stitches in garter stitch.

TOP – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The front and back pieces are worked separately, back and forth and bottom up, then sewn together. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and a rolled neck worked to finish.
FRONT PIECE:
Cast on 56-62-68-76-84-94 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 mm and 1 strand of each colour DROPS Cotton Merino (= 2 strands). Work a rolled edge as follows:
ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 3 EDGE STITCHES I-CORD, purl until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
ROW 2 (right side): Work 3 edge stitches I-cord, knit until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
ROW 3 (wrong side): Work 3 edge stitches I-cord, purl until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
Now work GARTER STITCH – read description above, with 3 edge stitches I-cord on each side. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
When the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm – read MEASUREMENT TIP, begin to increase on each side – read INCREASE TIP, as follows: Increase 1 stitch every 6-7-7-7-7-7 cm a total of 3 times = 62-68-74-82-90-100 stitches.
Work until the piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm – remember MEASUREMENT TIP.
At the beginning of the next 2 rows cast off 3-4-5-5-6-7 stitches for the armholes = 56-60-64-72-78-86 stitches.
Continue with garter stitch and 3 edge stitches I-cord each side for 2 more rows. On the next row from the right side begin to decrease for the armholes – read DECREASE TIP-1, decrease 1 stitch on each side every 2nd row 6-6-8-11-14-16 times. Then decrease every 4th row 5-6-6-5-4-4 times on each side. AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 36-37-38-40-41-42 cm – remember MEASURING TIP, place the middle 14-14-14-14-16-16 stitches on 1 thread for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately.
SHOULDER:
Continue with garter stitch and 3 edge stitches I-cord by the armhole and 1 stocking stitch by the neckline.
On the next row from the right side, begin decreasing for the neckline – read DECREASE TIP-2: Decrease 1 stitch 3-4-4-5-5-6 times.
When all decreases for the armhole and neckline are finished, there are 7-7-7-8-8-9 shoulder-stitches. Cast off when the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm – remember MEASURING TIP.
BACK PIECE:
Cast on 56-62-68-76-84-94 stitches with circular needle size 5.5 mm and 1 strand of each colour DROPS Cotton Merino (= 2 strands). Work a rolled edge as follows:
ROW 1 (wrong side): Work 3 edge stitches I-cord, purl until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
ROW 2 (right side): Work 3 edge stitches I-cord, knit until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
ROW 3 (wrong side): Work 3 edge stitches I-cord, purl until there are 3 stitches left and work 3 edge stitches I-cord.
Now work garter stitch with 3 edge stitches I-cord on each side.
When the piece measures 6-6-7-7-8-8 cm – remember MEASUREMENT TIP, increase 1 stitch each side every 6-7-7-7-7-7 cm a total of 3 times = 62-68-74-82-90-100 stitches.
Work until the piece measures 25-26-27-28-29-30 cm – remember MEASUREMENT TIP.

SHOULDER:
Continue with garter stitch and 3 edge stitches I-cord by the armhole.
When the piece measures 40-42-44-46-48-50 cm, cast off 9-10-10-11-12-13 stitches for the neckline = 8-8-8-9-9-10 shoulder-stitches. Continue with garter stitch and 3 edge stitches I-cord by the armhole and 1 stocking stitch by the neckline.
On the next row from the right side, decrease for the neckline – remember DECREASE TIP-2 = 7-7-7-8-8-9 shoulder-stitches.
Cast off when the piece measures 42-44-46-48-50-52 cm – remember MEASURING TIP.
ASSEMBLY:
Sew the shoulder seams, inside the cast-off edge.
Sew the side seams inside 1 stitch on each side, with 2 visible I-cord stitches on each side of the seam.
NECK:
Use circular needle size 5.5 mm and 1 strand of each colour (= 2 strands). Start mid-back and knit up from the right side 52 to 78 stitches (including the stitches on the thread). Work stocking stitch back and forth (purl from wrong side, knit from right side) with 1 garter stitch on each side, until the neck measures 3-3-3½-3½-4-4 cm. Cast off a little loosely with knit from the wrong side.
TIES:
Cut the ribbon into 2 equal lengths. Sew a ribbon on each side of the split mid-back in the transition between the neckline and neck, fastening to the wrong side. Tie a bow.
