EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.5.

CHAIN STITCH:
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double/half-treble/treble crochet is wide.

CROCHET INFORMATION:
At the beginning of each round of double crochets, replace the first double crochet with 1 chain stitch. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in this chain stitch.
At the beginning of each round of half-treble crochets, replace the first half-treble crochet with 2 chain stitches. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 2nd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
At the beginning of each round of treble crochets, replace the first treble crochet with 3 chain stitches. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.

DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the round (e.g., 185 stitches) and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g., 6) = 30.8. In this example, decrease by working approx. every 30th and 31st treble crochet together as follows:
* Make 1 yarn over, insert hook through first/next stitch, pick up strand, make 1 yarn over and pull it through the first 2 loops on the hook *, work from *-* 1 more time, make 1 yarn over and pull it through all 3 loops on the hook.

-------------------------------------------------------

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

SKIRT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Granny squares are worked and sewn together into a strip/ring.
You then continue working around one side of the ring. To maintain the textured pattern, when working in the round, work alternate rounds from the right and wrong side. An edge is worked along the bottom of the ring to finish.

SQUARES:
Use crochet hook size 4 mm and DROPS Muskat. Work in the round according to diagram A.1. Cut and fasten the strand.
Work a total of 15-17-18-20-22-24 squares.

ASSEMBLY OF SQUARES:
Make sure the squares are all right-side up. Sew the squares together into a strip, with 1 stitch in each stitch. The length of the strip is the measurement of bottom edge of the skirt = approx. 90-102-108-120-132-144 cm. Sew the first and last square together into a ring. Now work the skirt around the top side of ring with squares and up to the waistband.

SKIRT:
Start from the right side with 1 slip stitch in the seam between 2 squares (this is the beginning of round = left side of skirt when worn). Read CROCHET INFORMATION and work 163-185-195-217-239-261 double crochets along the edge, dividing the stitches as follows: Work 10 double crochets along each square and 1 double crochet in each seam (i.e., along 1 square work 2 double crochets around the corner-space, 3 double crochets around the next 2 chain-spaces and 2 double crochets around the corner-space). So the stitch count is correct, work 1 less double crochet evenly spaced across 2-2-3-3-3-3 squares.

OVERVIEW OF NEXT SECTIONS:
Now work pattern, decreasing evenly upwards to the waistline, work a split for the button-band and work elastic into the waistband. Read the next 4 sections before continuing.

PATTERN:
Work PATTERN – read description above, from the right side as follows: A.2A in the first stitch, A.2B to end of round. Continue this pattern but be aware that after round 2 you turn and work the last round in A.2 from the wrong side.
When A.2 is finished in height, continue as follows: Work A.3A in the first stitch, A.3B to end of round. Continue this pattern with alternate rounds of double crochets from the right side, treble crochets from the wrong side. Remember to maintain the crochet tension!

DECREASES:
When the piece measures 7-8-10-12-14-16 cm (including the strip of squares) and the next round is a round of treble crochets, decrease as follows - read DECREASE TIP:
Decrease 2-4-6-4-4-4 stitches evenly spaced = 161-181-189-213-235-257 stitches, work 5 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 156-175-184-207-229-251 stitches, work 5 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 151-169-179-201-223-245 stitches, work 3 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 146-163-174-195-217-239 stitches, work 3 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 141-157-169-189-211-233 stitches, work 3 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 136-151-164-183-205-227 stitches, work 3 rounds without decreasing.
On the next round of treble crochets decrease 5-6-5-6-6-6 stitches evenly spaced = 131-145-159-177-199-221 stitches.

SPLIT FOR THE BUTTON-BAND:
AT THE SAME TIME, when the piece measures 23-25-27-29-31-33 cm (including the strip of squares), work a 12 cm split for the button-band. Continue working back and forth but without fastening at the end of the round. The split will be on the left-hand side of the skirt (when the garment is worn). The band is worked later.

ELASTIC IN WAISTBAND:
When all the decreases are finished, the piece measures approx. 31-32-34-36-38-40 cm (including the strip of squares). If the piece is shorter than this, continue A.3 back and forth to the correct measurement.
Use a thin elastic strand (together with 1 strand DROPS Muskat) and continue working as before until the piece measures 35-37-39-41-43-45 cm (including the strip of squares), finishing with a round of double crochets from the right side. Cut and fasten the strands.

BOTTOM EDGE:
Work an edge along the bottom of the ring (beginning between the same 2 squares as before).
Start from the right side with 1 slip stitch in the seam between the 2 squares. Remember CROCHET INFORMATION and work 163-185-195-217-239-261 double crochets along the edge – dividing the stitches in the same way as along the top edge.
Work the next round as follows: A.4A in the first stitch, A.4B to end of round. Continue this pattern (each round is worked from the right side) until A.4 is finished in height, do not cut the strand. Now work a laced edge.

LACED BOTTOM EDGE:
Work A.5A in the first stitch, A.5B to end of round, adjusting so there is an even number of chain-spaces on the round. Complete A.5 in height. Cut and fasten the strand.

BUTTON LOOPS:
Along the front edge of the split, work button loops, starting from the right side with 1 slip stitch at the bottom of the split. Work 3 chain stitches, skip 1 cm, * work 2 double crochets in the treble-crochet row and 1 double crochet in the double-crochet row *, work from *-* for 4½ cm, 3 chain stitches, skip 1 cm, work from *-* for 4½ cm, 3 chain stitches, skip 1 cm, 1 slip stitch in the last row. Cut and fasten the strand.

BUTTON-BAND:
Along the other side of the split work 4 rows of double crochets. Start from the right side with 1 slip stitch at the top of the split and work 2 double crochets in each treble-crochet row and 1 double crochet in every double-crochet row. Work back and forth with 1 double crochet in each double crochet for 4 rows, (starting each row with 1 chain stitch which replaces the first double crochet). Sew the buttons onto the band, matching them to the button loops.
