EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------
DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on needle (e.g., 180 stitches) and divide by number of decreases to be made (e.g., 44) = 4.1.
In this example decrease by knitting together approx. each 3rd and 4th stitch.
STRIPES BODY:
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 2 strands colour off white.
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue.
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 2 strands colour off white.
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue.
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 2 strands colour off white.
6½-6½-6½-7-7-7 cm with 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue.
Finish the piece with 2 strands colour off white.
STRIPE TIP:
For a neater transition when changing colours for the stripes:
Change to the new colour and work 1 round. Then work as follows:
Pick up the first stitch from the previous round and knit it together with the first stitch on round 2.
STRIPES SLEEVES:
7 cm with 2 strands colour off white.
7 cm with 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue.
7 cm with 2 strands colour off white.
7 cm with 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue.
Finish the sleeve with 2 strands colour off white.
INCREASE TIP:
Increase 1 stitch on each side of the marker-thread as follows:
Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, knit 4 (marker-thread sits in the middle of these 4 stitches), 1 yarn over (2 increased stitches).
On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes. Then work the new stitches in stocking stitch.

JUMPER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The pattern uses both long and short needles; start with the length which fits the number of stitches and change when necessary.
The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up as far as the armholes, then divided for the front and back pieces which are finished separately, back and forth.
The sleeves are worked bottom up, in the round as far as the sleeve cap, then finished back and forth. The sections are sewn together. Stitches are knitted up around the neckline and the neck worked in the round to finish.
BODY:
Cast on 180-192-208-228-240-260 stitches with circular needle size 5 mm, 1 strand colour off white and 1 strand colour pacific blue DROPS Brushed Alpaca Silk (= 2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 7 cm.
Change to circular needle size 6 mm and 2 strands colour off white. Knit 1 round and decrease 44-48-52-60-60-64 stitches evenly on the round – read DECREASE TIP = 136-144-156-168-180-196 stitches. Read STRIPES BODY and STRIPE TIP. Work stocking stitch in the round until the piece measures 35-36-37-38-39-40 cm from the cast-on edge. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Now divide for the armholes.
DIVIDE FOR ARMHOLES:
Cast off the first 2-4-6-8-12-16 stitches on the round, knit 66-68-72-76-78-82 (= front piece), cast off the next 2-4-6-8-12-16 stitches, knit 66-68-72-76-78-82 (= back piece).
The front and back pieces are finished separately.
BACK PIECE:
= 66-68-72-76-78-82 stitches. Continue back and forth, with stripes and stocking stitch as before.
When the piece measures 50-52-54-56-58-60 cm from the cast-on edge, cast off the middle 16-16-16-18-18-18 stitches for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately.
SHOULDERS:
Cast off as follows for the neckline every 2nd row: 2 stitches 1 time and 1 stitch 1 time = 22-23-25-26-27-29 stitches on the shoulder. Cast off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm.
FRONT PIECE:
= 66-68-72-76-78-82 stitches. Continue back and forth with stripes and stocking stitch as before.
When the piece measures 48-49-50-51-52-53 cm from the cast-on edge, place the middle 10-10-10-12-12-12 stitches on a thread for the neckline and finish each shoulder separately.
SHOULDERS:
Cast off as follows for the neckline every 2nd row: 2 stitches 2 times and 1 stitch 2 times = 22-23-25-26-27-29 stitches on the shoulder. Cast off when the piece measures 54-56-58-60-62-64 cm.
SLEEVES:
The sleeves are started in the round, then finished back and forth for the sleeve cap.
Cast on 44-48-48-52-52-52 stitches with double pointed needles size 5 mm and 1 strand of each colour (2 strands). Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 7 cm.
Change to double pointed needles size 6 mm and 2 strands colour off white. Knit 1 round, decreasing 10-12-12-14-14-12 stitches evenly on this round – remember DECREASE TIP = 34-36-36-38-38-40 stitches.
Insert 1 marker-thread mid-under the sleeve; this is used when increasing under the sleeve. Allow the marker-thread to follow your work onwards.
Continue with stocking stitch and STRIPES SLEEVES – read explanation above.
When the sleeve measures 12-12-10-12-10-9 cm from the cast-on edge, increase 2 stitches under the sleeve – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 4½-4½-4-3-3-3 cm a total of 8-8-9-10-11-11 times = 50-52-54-58-60-62 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch and stripes until the sleeve measures 46-46-45-43-42-41 cm from the cast-on edge. Now work the sleeve cap.
SLEEVE CAP:
Work stocking stitch back and forth until the sleeve measures 47-48-48-47-47-47 cm from the cast-on edge. Cast off.
ASSEMBLY:
Sew the shoulder seams. Sew the sleeves into the armholes – NOTE: there is a split under the sleeve which is sewn to the bottom of the armhole - see sketch.
NECK:
Use circular needle size 5 mm and 1 strand of each colour (2 strands). Knit up 68-68-72-72-76-76 stitches (including the stitches on the thread), from the right side, starting on one shoulder seam – the stitch count should be divisible by 4. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 8-8-8-9-9-9 cm.
Cast off a little loosely. Fold the neck double to the inside and fasten with a couple of stitches.
