EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------
INCREASE TIP:
Increase 1 stitch by making 1 yarn over, which is knitted twisted on the next round to avoid a hole.
CABLING TIP:
All cables are worked from the right side!
So the cables are symmetrical, work as follows:
Place the first 3 stitches on a cable needle in front of the piece, knit 3, knit 3 from the cable needle, knit until there are 6 stitches left on the row, place 3 stitches on a cable needle behind the piece, knit 3, knit 3 from the cable needle.

START THE PIECE HERE:
-------------------------------------------------------
SLIPPERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, from the toe backwards, then divided on top of the foot and finished back and forth. The slipper is sewn together mid-back, then felted.
SLIPPER:
Cast on 8-9-10-9-10-10-12 stitches with double pointed needles size 5.5 mm and DROPS Nepal. Work stocking stitch in the round, AT THE SAME TIME increase 1 stitch after each stitch on the first round – read INCREASE TIP = 16-18-20-18-20-20-24 stitches. Continue with stocking stitch, increasing AT THE SAME TIME 4 stitches evenly spaced every 2nd round 4-4-4-5-5-6-6 times = 32-34-36-38-40-44-48 stitches. Remember to maintain the knitting tension.
Continue working until the piece measures 9½-10½-11½-13-14½-16-17 cm. On the next round increase as follows (makes the slipper-opening more elastic): 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit 1, 1 yarn over, knit to end of round = 35-37-39-41-43-47-51 stitches.
Now work the slipper-opening as follows: Change to circular needle size 5.5 mm and cast off the first 5 stitches (3 yarn overs + 2 stitches), knit to end of row = 30-32-34-36-38-42-46 stitches.
Continue with stocking stitch back and forth, increasing 1 stitch on each side as follows: Work 6 stitches, 1 yarn over, work until there are 6 stitches left, 1 yarn over, work 6 stitches. Increase like this every 2nd row a total of 3 times = 36-38-40-42-44-48-52 stitches – AT THE SAME TIME, every 6th row (every 3rd row from the right side) cable the first and last 6 stitches on the row - read CABLE TIP.
Continue with cables and stocking stitch until the piece measures 21½-24½-26-28½-31½-34-38½ cm from the cast-on edge – make sure you have not cabled on the last 3 rows. Cast off.
ASSEMBLY:
Tack a strand through the cast-on stitches at the toe, tighten the strand and fasten well. Sew the slipper together mid-back, edge to edge so the seam is flat.
FELTING:
The piece can be felted either in the washing machine or the tumble dryer – read description below.
Remember: Subsequent washes are as for a normal wool garment.
IN WASHING MACHINE:
Washing machines will vary when felting. If the piece is not felted enough, it can be felted again. If it is felted too much, it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet.
DO THE FOLLOWING:
Lay the piece in the washing machine, using a programme of approx. 40 minutes (not a wool programme).
Wash at 40 degrees without pre-wash, detergent is optional. After washing, shape the piece while it is still wet.
IN TUMBLE DRYER:
Felting in a tumble dryer gives good control over the degree of felting. The tumble dryer can be opened during drying to check the size of the piece. If it is not felted enough it can be thoroughly wetted and felted again. If it is felted too much it can be stretched to the correct size while still wet.
DO THE FOLLOWING:
Lay the piece in water so it becomes completely wet, then place it in the tumble dryer and begin the drying process. Dry to the desired size, checking regularly.
