SOCKS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the toe upwards.

TOE:
Cast on 9 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and colour black DROPS Nord.
Work 1 round where you knit 2 stitches in every stitch = 18 stitches.
Insert 1 marker-thread at the beginning of the round; allow the thread to follow your work onwards (= mid-under foot).
Insert 1 marker in the 5th stitch and 1 marker in the 14th stitch (8 stitches on top of and underneath the foot).
Knit 1 round.
On the next round work stripes and increase – read STRIPES and INCREASE TIP above.
Increase every round 3-3-3 times, then every 2nd round 5-6-6 times = 50-54-58 stitches. Knit 1 round. Remove the markers but allow the marker-thread to follow your work onwards. The piece measures approx. 4½-5-5 cm from the cast-on edge.

FOOT:
Continue with stocking stitch in the round until the foot measures 19-20½-22½ cm from the cast-on edge. Remember to maintain the knitting tension. There is approx. 5-5½-5½ cm left to finished foot-length. Now work the heel-gusset.

HEEL-GUSSET:
Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (mid-under foot).
Insert 1 marker-thread in each side with 20-22-24 stitches on top of the foot and 30-32-34 stitches underneath. Allow the marker and marker-threads to follow your work onwards.

Work short rows back and forth with colour black, working 1 less stitch on each row as follows:
ROW 1 (right side): Knit to the first marker-thread, turn.
ROW 2 (wrong side): Slip the first stitch purl-wise, purl to the second marker-thread, turn.
ROW 3 (right side): Slip the first stitch knit-wise, knit until there is 1 stitch left before the previous turn, turn.
ROW 4 (wrong side): Slip the first stitch purl-wise, purl until there is 1 stitch left before the previous turn, turn..
Repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have turned 8-9-9 times on each side – finish with a row from the right side to the marker mid under the foot.

The first short rows are finished. Now work 2 rounds over all stitches as follows:
ROUND 1: To avoid holes in the transitions between stitches, work as follows: Knit to the previous turn from the right side, * use the left needle and pick up the strand between the stitches on the right and left needle (1 new stitch), knit the new stitch together with the next stitch *, work from *-* until you have reach the first marker-thread (side of heel).
Knit to the next marker-thread (across the stitches on top of the foot). Work from *-* but knit the new stitch and the next stitch twisted together, work from *-* until you have worked across all the turns (to other side of heel), knit to mid-under foot (marker). The piece measures 24-26-28 cm from the cast-on stitches measured under the foot.
ROUND 2: Knit.

Now work short rows back and forth again, working 1 more stitch on each row, starting at the marker under the foot as follows:
ROW 1 (right side): Knit 7-7-8 stitches, turn.
ROW 2 (wrong side): Slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 13-13-15 stitches, turn.
ROW 3 (right side): Slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit to where the piece was turned the previous time from the right side, use the left needle and pick up the strand between the stitches on the right and left needle (1 new stitch), knit the new stitch and the next stitch together, turn.
ROW 4 (wrong side): Slip the first stitch purl-wise, purl to where the piece was turned the previous time from the wrong side, use the left needle and pick up the strand between the stitches on the right and left needle (1 new stitch), purl the new stitch and the next stitch twisted together, turn.
Work rows 3 and 4 until there is 1 stitch left before the marker-threads on each side and the last row was from the wrong side, turn.
Work the next round from the right side as follows:
Knit all stitches – closing the holes in the same way as above. Remove the marker-threads and marker.

LEG:
Insert 1 new marker; the leg is measured from here.
= 50-54-58 stitches.
Work stocking stitch in the round and increase 6-5-7 stitches evenly on the first round = 56-59-65 stitches.
When the leg measures 5½-5½-6½ cm from the marker, knit 1 round and increase 7-4-7 stitches evenly spaced = 63-63-72 stitches.
Work PATTERN according to diagram A.1, increasing on the rounds marked with arrows as follows:
ARROW-1: Increase 9-9-0 stitches evenly spaced = 72-72-72 stitches.
ARROW-2: Increase 0-9-9 stitches evenly spaced = 72-81-81 stitches.
When A.1 is finished, the leg measures approx. 19-19-20 cm from the marker. Change to double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and colour black. Work rib (knit 2, purl 2), AT THE SAME TIME adjust the stitch count to 72-80-88 stitches. When the rib measures 5-6-6 cm, cast off.

ASSEMBLY:
Sew together the hole in the toe with colour black.
