EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------
INCREASE TIP:
Work until there is 1 stitch left before the marker-thread, make 1 yarn over, work 2 stocking stitches (the marker-thread sits between these 2 stitches), make 1 yarn over (2 increased stitches). On the next round knit the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes.
STRIPES:
Work as follows:
2 rounds/rows with pattern colour.
6 rounds/rows with main colour.
Repeat the stripes until there is 2 cm left before finished length, then finish with main colour.
STRIPE TIP (when working stripes in the round):
For a neat transition at the beginning/end of each round when working stripes:
Change to the new colour and work 1 round, then work round 2 as follows:
Pick up the first stitch from the previous round and knit it together with the first stitch on this round.
-------------------------------------------------------
START THE PIECE HERE:
-------------------------------------------------------
SLIPPERS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from the toe backwards, divided mid-top of foot and finished back and forth with circular needle, then sewn together mid-back. The piece is felted in the washing machine.
SLIPPERS:
Cast on 10-10-8-10-12-10-12 stitches with double pointed needles size 8 mm and main colour DROPS Snow. Insert 1 marker at the beginning of the round (mid-under foot). Insert 1 marker-thread after the 3rd-3rd-2nd-3rd-4th-3rd-4th stitch and 1 marker-thread after the 7th-7th-6th-7th-8th-7th-8th stitch. Work stocking stitch in the round. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round increase 1 stitch on each side of both marker-threads – read INCREASE TIP. Increase like this every 2nd round a total of 3-3-4-4-4-5-5 times = 22-22-24-26-28-30-32 stitches.
When the piece measures 5-5-6-7-8-9-10 cm, work STRIPES – read description above. Read STRIPE TIP.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 14-15-16-17-19-21-23 cm, cut the strand at the end of the round.
Divide mid-top of foot as follows:
Cast on 1-2-2-3-3-3-3 stitches with circular needle size 8 mm. Starting mid-top of foot, work all stitches in stocking stitch from the right side, then cast on 1-2-2-3-3-3-3 stitches at the end of the row = 24-26-28-32-34-36-38 stitches. Work stocking stitch back and forth, AT THE SAME TIME on the next row, work 2 stitches in the first and last stitches on the row (= 2 increased stitches) = 26-28-30-34-36-38-40 stitches.
Continue the stripes, which now start mid-top of foot instead of underneath.
Work until the piece measures 25-28-30-34-37-41-46 cm from the cast-on edge - remember the last 2 cm re worked with main colour.
Work the last row before casting off as follows: 11-12-13-15-16-17-18 stocking stitches, work 2 stitches together, work the next 2 stitches together, then stocking stitch to end of row. Cast off. Piece measures approx. 26-29-31-35-38-42-47 cm.
ASSEMBLY:
Use main colour and a needle to tack through the stitches from the cast-on edge (toe), tighten the strand and fasten well. Fold the slipper and sew the seam mid-back, edge to edge, sewing in the outermost loop of the outermost stitch so the seam is flat.
FELTING:
Place the slippers in the washing machine, using a detergent without enzymes or optical bleaches and together with a terry towel of approx. 50 x 70 cm. Wash at 40 degrees with normal centrifuge and without pre-wash – NOTE: Do not use a short programme. After washing, shape the slippers while still wet.
AFTER FELTING:
If the slippers are not felted enough and are too big, you can wash them one more time in the washing machine while still wet.
If the slippers have been felted too much and are too small, stretch them to the correct measurements while still wet. If the slippers are already dry, re-wet them first.
Remember – all subsequent washes are as a normal wool garment.
