EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

CROCHET INFO:
If you work outermost on the hook when working chain stitches, they will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double crochet/half-treble crochet is wide

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.5.
The stitches drawn on each row are repeated all the round.

-------------------------------------------------------

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

CHICK IN EGG – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Start at the top of the head and work downwards.

BEAK:
Start with the beak so it is ready to be fastened on the correct round. Work following diagram A.1, working with crimson red and crochet hook size 3,5 mm.
When working A.1 leave 15 cm strand at the beginning and end – they are used when fastening it to the head of chick.

CHICK:
Start with colour yellow and hook size 3,5 mm. Crochet 3 chain stitches and join them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch. Work A.2, 5 times in width on the round. A.3 shows how the rounds start and finish and comes extra.
The beak is fastened to the head on the round with an arrow; sew the start-strand to a stitch, skip 2 stitches and sew the end-strand to a stitch. Fasten the strand ends on the inside before filling the chick with wadding (this is done on the round marked with a star). The eyes are embroidered at the same time as the beak is fastened to the head – sew a flat stitch on each side of the beak with colour black.

EGG:
Continue working with colour off white and crochet hook size 3.5 mm. After A.2 and A.3 are finished, work A.4 over A.2. A.5 shows how the rounds start and finish.
Fill with wadding on the round marked with a star.

ASSEMBLY:
After the last round in A.4, cut and fasten the strands at the top and bottom of the piece.
You can now work a little down on the chick as follows:
Use colour off white and hook size 3,5 mm. * Work 1 slip stitch around the ring of chains on the top of the head, 6 chain stitches, * repeat from *-* 3 times and finish with 1 slip stitch around the ring of chains.
