NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3,5 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 3,5 MM.
The technique MAGIC LOOP can be used – you then only need 80 cm circular needle in each size.
KNITTING TENSION:
22 stitches in width and 30 rows in height with stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

DECREASE TIP (evenly spaced):
To work out how to decrease evenly, count the total number of stitches on the needle (e.g., 132 stitches) and divide by the number of decreases to be made (e.g., 24) = 5,5.
In this example decrease by knitting together alternately each 4th and 5th stitch and each 5th and 6th stitch.

START THE PIECE HERE:

HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, bottom up. Change from circular needles to double pointed needles as you decrease.
HAT:
Cast on 132-140 stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and DROPS Merino Extra Fine or DROPS Fiesta. Work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 13 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 24-26 stitches evenly spaced – read DECREASE TIP = 108-114 stitches.
Change to circular needle size 3,5 mm. Continue with stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When the piece measures 21-22 cm from the cast-on edge, knit 1 round while decreasing 3-2 stitches evenly = 105-112 stitches. Insert 7 marker-threads, with 15-16 stitches between each one. Now decrease by knitting 2 together before each marker-thread (= 7 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 3rd round 1 more time, then every 2nd round 9 times (= a total of 11 times) = 28-35 stitches.
Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 until there is 0-1 stitch left, knit 0-1 = 14-18 stitches. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 7-9 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 30-31 cm from the cast-on edge. Fold the bottom 7 cm up to the right side.
