EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:
-------------------------------------------------------

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch.

KNITTING TIP-1:
To avoid the knitting tension losing its elasticity when working pattern, it is important that the strands at the back are not tight. Use a size larger needle when working pattern if the piece becomes tight.

KNITTING TIP-2 (heel):
To strengthen the heel, work the heel and heel-decreases with 2 strands as follows: Work alternately 1 stitch with the strand from the inside and then the outside of the ball. This gives you a slightly thicker heel, without working a double strand.

HEEL DECREASES:
ROW 1 (= right side): Knit until there are 6-6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn.
ROW 2 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 6-6-6-7 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn.
ROW 3 (= right side): Knit until there are 5-5-5-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch, turn.
ROW 4 (= wrong side): Purl until there are 5-5-5-6 stitches left, slip 1 stitch purl-wise, purl 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the purled stitch, turn.
Continue to decrease like this, working until there is 1 stitch less each time before slipping a stitch and until there are 12-14-16-16 stitches left.

DECREASE TIP (for toe):
Start 3 stitches before the marker, knit 2 together, knit 2 (the marker sits between these 2 stitches), slip 1 stitch knit-wise, knit 1 and pass the slipped stitch over the knitted stitch (2 stitches decreased). Repeat at the other marker.

START THE PIECE HERE:

-------------------------------------------------------

SOCKS – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles, from top to toe.
The sock-length equals the foot-length. If you want the sock to be a little stretched when worn, work it slightly shorter before decreasing for the toe.

LEG:
Cast on 60-64-68-72 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and colour forest green DROPS Karisma. Knit 1 round. Then work 1 round of rib (knit 2, purl 2). Change to colour dark brown and continue the rib until the piece measures 4 cm.
Knit 1 round with colour dark brown and decrease 12-8-12-8 stitches evenly spaced = 48-56-56-64 stitches.
Change to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm. Read KNITTING TIP-1 and work A.1, 6-7-7-8 times on the round. Continue this pattern. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TIP!
On the round marked with arrow-1, decrease 0-4-0-4 stitches evenly spaced = 48-52-56-60 stitches.
On the round marked with arrow-2, decrease 2-2-2-4 stitches evenly spaced = 46-50-54-56 stitches.
When A.1 is finished, continue stocking stitch with colour dark brown until the leg measures 17-18-19-20 cm.

HEEL AND FOOT:
Now knit the first 11-12-13-14 stitches and keep them on the needles for the heel, place the next 24-26-28-28 stitches on a thread (top of foot), keep the last 11-12-13-14 stitches on the needle = 22-24-26-28 heel-stitches.
Read KNITTING TIP-2 and work stocking stitch back and forth for 6-6-6½-6½ cm. Insert 1 marker in the middle of the last row. The foot is measured from this marker.
Work HEEL DECREASES – read explanation above.
After the heel decreases work as follows: Knit the 12-14-16-16 heel-stitches, knit up 13-13-14-14 stitches along the side of the heel, knit the 24-26-28-28 stitches from the thread and knit up 13-13-14-14 stitches along the other side of the heel = 62-66-72-72 stitches.
Work to mid-heel – the round now starts here.
Insert 1 marker on each side of the 24-26-28-28 stitches on top of foot.
Work stocking stitch in the round and decrease on each side as follows: Knit together the last 2 stitches before the first marker and knit twisted together the first 2 stitches after the second marker.
Decrease like this every round a total of 4-4-5-3 times, then every 2nd round 8 times = 38-42-46-50 stitches.
Work until the foot measures 17-18-19-21 cm from the marker on the heel – measured under the foot. Approx. 5-6-7-7 cm left; try the sock on and work to desired length.

TOE:
Insert 1 marker on each side, with 19-21-23-25 stitches both on top and underneath the foot. Continue with stocking stitch. AT THE SAME TIME on the first round, decrease on each side of both markers – read DECREASE TIP (4 stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 4th round a total of 2-2-3-3 times, every 2nd round 4-5-5-5 times, then every round 1-1-1-2 times = 10 stitches left. Work 1 round where all stitches are knitted together 2 and 2 = 5 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The foot measures approx. 22-24-26-28 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot.
Work the other sock in the same way.
