CROCHET HOOK:
DROPS CROCHET HOOK SIZE 3 MM.

CROCHET TENSION:
22 double crochets in width and 22 rows in height = 10 x 10 cm.
22 half-treble crochets in width and 16 rows in height = 10 x 10 cm.
Hook size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger hook size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller hook size.

EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

CROCHET INFORMATION:
TREBLE CROCHETS:
At the beginning of each round of treble crochets work 3 chain stitches, which replace the first treble crochet, i.e., skip the first stitch on the previous round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the third chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
HALF-TREBLE CROCHETS:
At the beginning of each round of half-treble crochets work 2 chain stitches, which replace the first half-treble crochet, i.e., skip the first stitch on the previous round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the second chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
DOUBLE CROCHETS:
At the beginning of each round of double crochets work 1 chain stitch, which replaces the first double crochet, i.e., skip the first stitch on the previous round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round.

2 HALF-TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER:
Work 1 half-treble crochet in the next stitch but wait with the last yarn over and pull-through, work 1 half-treble crochet in the next stitch and pull the last yarn over through all 5 loops on the hook.

CROCHETING TOGETHER:
Work 1 double crochet in the next stitch but wait with the last yarn over and pull-through, work 1 double crochet in the next stitch and pull the last yarn over through all 3 loops on the hook.

EGG COSY – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The egg cosy consists of 2 sections which are crocheted together, the stalk and the cap.
The stalk is worked in the round, bottom up.
The cap is worked in the round, top down. Small French knots are worked on the cap, which is filled with wadding before being crocheted to the stalk.

STALK:
Work 36 chain stitches with hook size 3 mm and colour off-white DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
Read CROCHET INFORMATION and work as follows:
ROUND 1: * 1 half-treble crochet in each of the first /next 4 chain stitches, work 2 HALF-TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER – read description above *, work from *-* to end of round = 30 half-treble crochets.
ROUNDS 2-8: 1 half-treble crochet in each half-treble crochet. The piece measures approx. 5 cm; if the piece is shorter than this, continue working to the correct height.
ROUND 9: Work double crochets at the same time as all stitches are worked together 2 and 2 – read CROCHETING TOGETHER = 15 double crochets.
ROUNDS 10-15: 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 16: 2 double crochets in each double crochet = 30 double crochets.
ROUND 17: 1 treble crochet in each double crochet = 30 treble crochets.
ROUND 18: * 1 treble crochet in each of the first/next 2 treble crochets, 2 treble crochets in the next treble crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 40 treble crochets.
ROUND 19: * 1 treble crochet in each of the first/next 4 treble crochets, 2 treble crochets in the next treble crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 48 treble crochets. Change to colour red and work the last slip stitch on the round.
ROUND 20: Continue with colour red. * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 5 treble crochets, 2 double crochets in the next treble crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 56 double crochets. Cut and fasten the strand. The stalk measures approx. 9½ cm.

CAP:
Work 4 chain stitches with hook size 3 mm and colour red DROPS Merino Extra Fine. Form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
Read CROCHET INFORMATION and work as follows:
ROUND 1: 6 double crochets around the ring.
ROUND 2: 2 double crochets in each double crochet = 12 double crochets.
ROUND 3: 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 4: * 1 double crochet in the first/next double crochet, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 18 double crochets.
ROUND 5: 1 double crochet in each stitch.
ROUND 6: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 2 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 24 double crochets.
ROUND 7: 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 8: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 3 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 30 double crochets.
ROUND 9: 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 10: 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 4 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 36 double crochets.
ROUNDS 11-14: 1 double crochet in each double crochet.
ROUND 15: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 2 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 48 double crochets.
ROUND 16: * 1 double crochet in each of the first/next 5 double crochets, 2 double crochets in the next double crochet *, work from *-* to end of round = 56 double crochets. Do not cut the strand. The cap measures approx. 7 cm.

ASSEMBLY:
Embroider small French knots on the cap with colour off-white – we have wound the strand 3 times around the needle on each knot.
Fill the cap with a small amount of wadding.
Place the cap on the stalk with the beginning of the rounds in the same place. Crochet together (with the cap towards you) using colour red and 1 double crochet in each double crochet, through both layers.
Cut and fasten the strand. The mushroom measures approx. 16½ cm when stretched out. The cap is pushed down over half of the stalk and the egg cosy is then approx. 10 cm in height.
