CROCHET HOOK:
DROPS CROCHET HOOK size 3 mm

CROCHET TENSION:
24 double crochets in width and 26 rows vertically = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE! Remember that hook size is only a suggestion. If you have too many stitches on 10 cm switch to larger hook. If you have too few stitches on 10 cm switch to smaller hook.

EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:

CHAIN STITCHES:
If you work at the end of crochet hook the chain stitch will often be too tight.
1 chain stitch should be just as long as 1 double crochet/treble crochet/double treble crochet is wide.

CROCHET INFO-1:
Replace first double crochet with 1 chain stitch, finish round with 1 slip stitch in first chain stitch.

COLOUR CHANGE:
When changing colour work until 1 slip stitch remain to be worked, change to new colour and work slip stitch in the new colour.

CROCHET INFORMATION-2:
When working in the round without finishing the round, work as follows:
When last double crochet on round has been worked, work first double crochet on next round in first double crochet on previous round. Use a marker and a marker thread to clearly see where round begins/ends.
To avoid a notch at the bottom of hat begin last round with 1 chain stitch and finish round with 1 slip stitch in this chain stitch.

START THE PIECE HERE:

HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round from the stem at the top of hat and down. Work 2 loose leaves that are sewn to stem.

HAT:
Use hook size 3 mm and DROPS Baby Merino colour sage green.
Work 5 CHAIN STITCHES - read explanation above, form a ring with 1 slip stitch in first chain stitch. Read CROCHET INFORMATION-1.
Work 10 double crochets in ring.
Continue to work 1 double crochet in every double crochet on round until piece measures approx. 3-3-3-4 (4-4) cm. Read COLOUR CHANGE, and change to colour lemon.
Then work double crochets while at the same time increasing as follows - REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION:
ROUND 1: Work * 1 double crochet in first/next stitch, work 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 15 double crochets.
ROUND 2: Work 1 double crochet in every double crochet.
ROUND 3: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the 2 first/next stitches, 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 20 double crochets.
ROUND 4: Work 1 double crochet in every double crochet.
ROUND 5: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the 3 first/next stitches, 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 25 double crochets.
ROUND 6: Work 1 double crochet in every double crochet.
ROUND 7: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the 4 first/next stitches, 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 30 double crochets.
ROUND 8: Work 1 double crochet in every double crochet.
Insert a maker in this round - measure from marker.

Now the increase changes and is worked as follows:
ROUND 9: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the 4 first/next stitches, 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 36 double crochets.
ROUND 10: Work * 1 double crochet in each of the 5 first/next stitches, 2 double crochets in next stitch *, work from *-* the entire round = 42 double crochets.
Continue increase like this - i.e. work 1 double crochet more between every increase on every round until there are 66-78-90-102 (108-102) stitches in total on round.
Increases are done in size 12/18 months and 2 years.

SIZE 0/1 - 1/3 - 6/9 months and 3/4 years:
Work double crochets and increase 6 stitches the same way as before but on every other round 2-2-1 (2) times in total.

ALL SIZES:
There are 78-90-96-102 (108-114) stitches on round and piece measures approx. 4-5-5-5 (5-6) cm from marker.
Read CROCHET INFORMATION-2 and then work 1 double crochet in every double crochet until piece measures approx. 14-15-16-17 (17-18) cm from marker. Now work 1 last round to make the edge roll up a bit as follows:
* 1 double crochet in each of the 12-14-15-16 (17-18) first/next double crochets, 2 double crochets in next double crochet *, work from *-* the entire round.
Cut and fasten the yarn.

LEAVES:
Use colour sage green and hook size 3 mm, work 13 chain stitches - these chain stitches are drawn in diagram A.1 - follow symbols and work leaf as shown in diagram. Let the yarn end be approx. 15 cm to use it when leaf is sewn to the top of hat. Work another leaf the same way.

ASSEMBLY:
Fasten the 2 leaves on hat in transition between colour sage green and colour lemon.
