EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

PATTERN:
See diagrams A.1 to A.3. (A.1 is worked in rib).

INCREASE TIP (wedge heel):
Start 1 stitch before the marker-stitch, make 1 yarn over, knit 3 (marker-stitch is the middle stitch), 1 yarn over (= 2 stitches increased). On the next row purl the yarn overs twisted to avoid holes.

DECREASE TIP (wedge heel):
All decreases are worked from the right side!
Work until there are 2 stitches left before the marker-stitch, knit 2 together, knit 1 (marker-stitch), knit 2 twisted together.

WEDGE HEEL:
The wedge heel is worked back and forth in stocking stitch, with stitches increased on each row from the right side.
Row 1 (right side): Knit until there are 3 stitches left, increasing 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch – read INCREASE TIP, turn.
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl until there are 3 stitches left – yarn overs purled twisted, turn.
Row 3: Knit until there are 2 stitches left, increasing 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch, turn.
Row 4: Purl until there are 2 stitches left – yarn overs purled twisted, turn.
Row 5: Knit until there is 1 stitch left, increasing 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch, turn.
Row 6: Purl until there is 1 stitch left – yarn overs purled twisted, turn.
Row 7: Knit without increasing, turn.
Row 8: Purl = 31 stitches.

Insert a new marker in the middle of the row, which is used to measure the foot-length.

Knit all stitches (stitches on top of foot as well) with colour light grey. Then place the 29 top stitches back on the thread.
Now start to decrease, working back and forth as follows:

Row 1 (right side): Knit until there is 1 stitch left, decreasing 1 stitch on either side of the marker-stitch – read DECREASE TIP, turn.
Row 2 (wrong side): Purl until there is 1 stitch left, turn.
Row 3: Knit until there are 2 stitches left, decreasing 1 stitch on either side of the marker-stitch, turn.
Row 4: Purl until there are 2 stitches left, turn.

Row 5: Knit until there are 3 stitches left, decreasing 1 stitch on either side of the marker-stitch, turn.
Row 6: Purl until there are 3 stitches left, turn.
Row 7: Knit to end of row without decreasing, turn.
Row 8: Purl to end of row = 25 stitches.

Knit then from the right side, over all stitches.

CHRISTMAS STOCKING – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, top down with circular needle. Change to double pointed needles as you decrease stitches.

CHRISTMAS STOCKING:
Cast on 62 stitches with short circular needle size 5 mm and colour crimson red DROPS Snow. Knit 1 round, then work A.1 in rib (knit 1, purl 1).
After A.1, knit 1 round with colour light grey and decrease 8 stitches evenly spaced = 54 stitches.
Change to short circular needle size 5.5 mm and work A.2, 3 times on the round. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When A.2 is finished the piece measures approx. 22 cm.
Knit 1 round with colour light grey. Cut the strand.
Keep the first 13 stitches on the needle for the heel, place the next 29 stitches on 1 thread (top of foot) and keep the last 12 stitches on the needle = 25 heel stitches.
Insert 1 marker in the middle stitch. Work WEDGE HEEL with colour light grey – read description above.
When the heel is finished place the 29 stitches from the thread back on the needle and work them = 54 stitches. Work the first 12 stitches of the heel, the round now starts here (mid-under the foot).
Knit 1 round with colour light grey – AT THE SAME TIME decrease 1 stitch on each side of the marker-stitch = 52 stitches.
You have worked 3 rounds with colour light grey on top of the foot.

Work A.3 in the round; the stripes continue with 3 rounds colour off white and 3 rounds colour light grey (if you get holes where the heel turns, pick up the strand between the 2 stitches and work it twisted together with the first stitch on the left needle).
AT THE SAME TIME, on each round with an arrow in A.3, decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 44 stitches.
When A.3 is finished, continue with stocking stitch and colour light grey.
AT THE SAME TIME, on round 2, decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 40 stitches.

Work until the foot measures 17 cm from the marker on the heel, measured under the foot. Now start to decrease for the toe:
Decrease 8 stitches evenly spaced every 4th round 2 times, then every 2nd round 2 times = 8 stitches.
Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 4 stitches.
Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well.
The foot measures approx. 23 cm.
Thread the silk ribbon through the top back edge; used when hanging your stocking.
