BALACLAVA – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Piece is first worked back and forth in 2 parts. Slip the 2 parts together and work in the round. Finish with a double folding edge in rib.

BALACLAVA:
Cast on 62 stitches on circular needle size 5 mm with DROPS Melody. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Work rib, begin from right side as follows:
4 stitches in GARTER STITCH back and forth - read explanation above - * knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from *-* until 6 stitches remain, knit 2 and 4 stitches in garter stitch. When rib measures 3 cm, switch to circular needle size 6 mm. Work next row as follows:
4 stitches in garter stitch, work in stocking stitch until 4 stitches remain and decrease 6 stitches evenly, 4 stitches in garter stitch = 56 stitches. Continue in stocking stitch with 4 stitches in garter stitch in each side. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When piece measures 10 cm, put piece aside.
Knit another part the same way.
Now slip the part together = 112 stitches, and continue piece in the round as follows:
Continue in GARTER STITCH in the round - read explanation above, over the 8 stitches in garter stitch in each side and stocking stitch over the remaining stitches. When 2 ridges have been worked over the 8 stitches in garter stitch, work all stitches in stocking stitch.
When piece measures 43 cm, switch to circular needle size 5 mm. Work 1 round in stocking stitch and increase 16 stitches evenly = 128 stitches.
Then work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) for 13 cm. Loosely cast off. Fold the rib double in towards the wrong side and fasten cast-off edge to first round in rib. Make sure to avoid a tight seam.
