MATERIALS:

100-100-100 g colour 8903, black
50-50-50 g colour 2920, orange
50-50-50 g colour 7238, olive

NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4.5 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3.5 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4.5 MM.
The technique MAGIC LOOP can be used – you then only need circular needle of 80 cm in each size.

KNITTING TENSION:
18 stitches in width and 23 rows in height with stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1. The diagram is worked in stocking stitch.

DECREASE TIP (top of hat):
Decrease before each marker: Knit 2 together.

START THE PIECE HERE:

HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, with short circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles as you decrease.

HAT:
Cast on 92-96-100 stitches with short circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Nepal, colour black.
Knit 1 round. Then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 4-5-5 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 4 stitches evenly spaced = 88-92-96 stitches.
Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm and work 2 rounds stocking stitch.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
Work pattern according to diagram A.1. The diagram is repeated 8 times in width on the round. Finish the round with knit 0-4-8 in colour black.
When the diagram is completed in height finish the hat with colour black.
Work until the hat measures 17 cm from the cast-on edge; there is approx. 7-8-9 cm left. On the next round decrease 4-2-0 stitches evenly spaced = 84-90-96 stitches.
Insert 6 markers with 14-15-16 stitches between each one. On the next round decrease 1 stitch before each marker – read DECREASE TIP.
Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 6-7-8 times, then every round 4 times = 24 stitches. Work 2 rounds and knit all stitches together 2 and 2 on both rounds = 6 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 24-25-26 cm from the top down.

POM POM:
Make a large, loose pom pom, 11 cm in diameter, using colours black and olive. Sew the pom pom to the top of the hat.
