Knitted hat for children with pumpkin in DROPS Nepal. Sizes 2 to 12 years. Theme: Halloween.

MATERIALS:
DROPS NEPAL from Garnstudio (belongs to yarn group C)
100-100-100-100 g colour 8903, black
50-50-50-50 g colour 2920, orange
50-50-50-50 g colour 7238, olive

NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4.5 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 3.5 MM: Length 40 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4.5 MM.
The technique MAGIC LOOP can be used – you then only need circular needle of 80 cm in each size.

KNITTING TENSION:
18 stitches in width and 23 rows in height with stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.
NOTE: Needle size is only a guide. If you get too many stitches on 10 cm, change to a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches on 10 cm, change to a smaller needle size.

PATTERN:
See diagram A.1. The pattern is worked in stocking stitch.

DECREASE TIP (top of hat):
Decrease before each marker: Knit 2 together.

START THE PIECE HERE:

HAT – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round with circular needle, bottom up. Change to double pointed needles when necessary as you decrease.

HAT:
Cast on 84-88-88-92 stitches with circular needle size 3.5 mm and DROPS Nepal, colour black. Knit 1 round then work rib in the round (knit 2, purl 2) for 3-3-4-4 cm. Knit 1 round and decrease 3-3-2-4 stitches evenly spaced = 81-85-86-88 stitches.
Change to circular needle size 4.5 mm and work 2 rounds of stocking stitch.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
Work now pattern according to diagram A.1. The diagram is worked 9-9-9-9 times on the round, finishing the round with 0-4-5-7 stitches in colour black.
When the diagram is completed in height, finish the hat with colour black.
Work until the piece measures 14-14-15-16 cm from the cast-on edge; approx. 6-7-7-7 cm left. On the next round decrease 3-1-2-4 stitches evenly spaced = 78-84-84-84 stitches. Insert 6 markers with 13-14-14-14 stitches between each one. On the next round decrease 1 stitch before each marker – read DECREASE TIP.
Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of 5-6-6-6 times, then every round 4 times = 24 stitches. Work 2 rounds where all stitches are knitted together 2 and 2 = 6 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 20-21-22-23 cm from the top down.

POM POM:
Make a loose, large pom pom of approx. 10 cm in diameter with colours black and olive. Sew the pom pom to the top of the hat.
