EXPLANATIONS FOR THE PATTERN:

-------------------------------------------------------

CHAIN STITCH:
If you work outermost on the hook the chain stitch will often be too tight; 1 chain stitch should be as long as 1 double/treble/double-treble crochet is wide.

CROCHET INFORMATION:
Each round of double crochets starts with 1 chain stitch, which replaces the first double crochet on the round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in this chain stitch.
Each round of treble crochets starts with 3 chain stitches which replace the first treble crochet on the round. The round finishes with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch.

CHANGING COLOUR:
For the neatest transition when changing colours, work the last slip stitch on the round with the new colour as follows: Insert the hook in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round, pick up the new strand, make 1 yarn over with the new colour and pull the yarn over through the stitch on the hook.

COLOUR PATTERN (in the round):
When working with 2 colours on a round of double crochets, work as follows:
Work the last double crochet with the first colour, but wait with the last pull-through, change colour and pull the new strand through, then work the next double crochet.
When working with 2 colours on a round of treble crochets, work as follows:
Work the last treble crochet with the first colour, but wait with the last pull-through, change colour and pull the new strand through, then work the next treble crochet.
When working with 2 colours, lay the strand you are not working with over the stitches from the previous round and work around this strand so it is hidden – and carried forward.

WORK 3 TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER (in the same stitch):
* Make 1 yarn over, insert the hook through the next/same stitch, pick up the strand, make 1 yarn over and pull the strand through the first 2 loops on the hook *, work from *-* a total of 3 times in the same stitch, make 1 yarn over and pull the strand through all 4 loops (= 2 treble crochets decreased).

COASTER – SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
The piece is worked in the round, from the middle out.

COASTER:
Use crochet hook size 3 mm and red DROPS Muskat.
Work 5 chain stitches – read CHAIN STITCH, and form them into a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
Work A.1 in the round (A.x shows how the rounds begin and end) – NOTE: Rounds 1 and 2 (heart) are worked with red, then continue with taupe, but on rounds 5 and 7 work pattern with off-white and taupe – read CHANGING COLOUR and COLOUR PATTERN. REMEMBER THE CROCHET TENSION!
When A.1 has been completed, you have worked 8 rounds and there are 84 stitches.
Cut and fasten the strands.
