-------------------------------------------------------
START THE PIECE HERE:
-------------------------------------------------------
HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Worked in the round on circular needle. Switch to double pointed needles when decreasing at the top.
HAT:
Cast on 96 (108-112-116-120) stitches on circular needle size 3.5 mm with blue fog. Knit 1 round. Then work rib = knit 2/purl 2.
When rib measures 10 (10-12-12-14) cm (including approx. 8 (8-10-10-12) cm folding edge), knit 1 round and decrease 6 (8-8-8-10) stitches evenly = 90 (100-104-108-110) stitches. Work in stocking stitch in the round – in STRIPES-1 – read explanation above. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When piece measures 23 (22-25-26-30) cm (approx. 4 (5-5-5-5) cm remain), decrease as follows:
Decrease 0 (0-4-8-0) stitches evenly = 90 (100-100-100-110) stitches.
Insert 10 markers, 9 (10-10-10-11) stitches apart.
On next round decrease 1 stitch after every marker by slipping first stitch on to right needle, knit 1 and slip slipped stitch over worked stitch = 10 stitches decreased on round.
Decrease like this every other round 5 times in total (= 40 (50-50-50-60) stitches),
and then every round 3 (4-4-4-4) times in total = 10 (10-10-10-20) stitches.
Work all stitches together 2 by 2 = 5 (5-5-5-10) stitches.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Hat measures approx. 27 (27-30-31-35) cm from top and down.
Fold the bottom 8 (8-10-10-12) cm
-------------------------------------------------------
MITTENS - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
Worked in the round on double pointed needles.
RIGHT MITTEN:
Cast on 36 (36-40-44) stitches on double pointed needles size 3 mm with cedar. Knit 1 round. Then work rib (= knit 2/purl 2) in STRIPES-2- read explanation above, for 6 (7-8-8) cm.
Knit 1 round while decreasing 6 (4-6-8) stitches evenly = 30 (32-34-36) stitches. Switch to double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and work in stocking stitch in the round.
When 2 rounds have been knitted with cedar, continue with blue fog.
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When 3 (5-5-7) rounds in stocking stitch have been worked, begin increase for thumb gusset and increase 1 stitch on each side of the 2nd stitch on round – read INCREASE TIP.
Increase like this every other round 3 (3-4-4) times in total (increase on each side of all thumb stitches, i.e. there are 2 stitches more between yarn overs on every increase).
After all increases are done, there are 7 (7-9-9) thumb stitches and 36 (38-42-44) stitches in total on needle.
When mitten measures 9 (10½-12-12½) cm (piece measures approx. 3 (3½-4-4½) cm from rib), slip the 7 (7-9-9) thumb stitches on 1 stitch holder. Cast on 1 new stitch over stitches on stitch holder = 30 (32-34-36) stitches.
When mitten measures 14 (15-17-18) cm (piece measures approx. 8-8-9-10 cm from rib), work with cedar until finish measurements. Knit 1 round. Insert 1 marker thread at beginning of round and 1 marker thread after 15 (16-17-18) stitches.
On next round decrease 1 stitch on each side of both marker threads – read DECREASE TIP (= 4 stitches decreased).
Decrease like this on every other round 4 times in total and then on every round 2 times in total = 6 (8-10-12) stitches. On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 3 (4-5-6) stitches.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten. Mitten measures approx. 17-18-20-21 cm.
THUMB:
Slip the 7 (7-9-9) stitches from stitch holder over thumb gusset back on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm and pick in addition up 5 new stitches with blue fog in the edge behind the thumb stitches = 12 (12-14-14) stitches. Work in stocking stitch in the round with mustard for 3 (3½-4-4½) cm.
On next round knit all stitches together 2 by 2 = 6 (6-7-7) stitches. Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining stitches, tighten together and fasten.
Work left mitten the same way but increase for thumb on each side of next to last stitch on round.
