SIZE:

MATERIALS:
DROPS MERINO EXTRA FINE from Garnstudio (belongs to yarn group B)
150-150 (200-200-200-250) g colour 38, blue fog

KNITTING TENSION:
21 stitches in width and 28 rows vertically in stocking stitch = 10 x 10 cm.

NEEDLES:
DROPS CIRCULAR NEEDLE SIZE 4 mm: Length 60 or 80 cm.
DROPS DOUBLE POINTED NEEDLES SIZE 4 mm - for sleeve edge.
Needle size is only a suggestion! If you have too many stitches on 10 cm switch to a larger needle size. If you have too few stitches on 10 cm switch to a smaller needle size.

DROPS CHILDREN BUTTON, Sheep NO 627: 4-4 (4-4-5-5) pieces.

EXPLANATION FOR THE PATTERN:

DOUBLE MOSS STITCH:
ROW 1: * Knit 2, purl 2 *, repeat from *-*.
ROW 2: Knit over knit and purl over purl.
ROW 3: Purl over knit and knit over purl.
ROW 4: As 2nd row.
Work rows 1 to 4 upwards.

GARTER STITCH (back and forth):
1 ridge = knit 2 rows.

BUTTONHOLES:
Decrease for buttonholes on right band. 1 buttonhole = knit 2nd and 3rd stitch from edge together and make 1 yarn over. Decrease for buttonholes when piece measures:
6/9 MONTHS: 3, 9 and 15 cm
12/18 MONTHS: 4, 11 and 18 cm
2 YEARS: 4, 11 and 18 cm
3/4 YEARS: 4, 12 and 20 cm
5/6 YEARS: 2, 10, 18 and 25 cm
7/8 YEARS: 3, 11, 19 and 27 cm
Decrease the last buttonhole on neck edge.

DECREASE TIP:
When first stitch is knit stitch: Slip 1 stitch knitwise, knit 1, pass slipped stitch over stitch worked.
When first stitch is purl stitch: Purl 2 twisted together.

START THE PIECE HERE:

VEST:
Piece is worked back and forth on circular needle from mid front, from the bottom and up to armholes. Then work front and back piece back and forth on circular needle separately. Work pockets back and forth on circular needle and sew on when finished.

BODY:
Cast on 118-126 (134-142-150-158) stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Purl 1 row from wrong side. Then work in DOUBLE MOSS STITCH - read explanation above, until finished measurements. Decrease for BUTTONHOLES- read explanation above.
Insert 1 marker thread in each side, 31-33 (35-37-39-41) stitches in from mid front (back piece = 56-60 (64-68-72-76) stitches).
REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
When piece measures 18-20 (21-23-26-29) cm, cast off the middle 8 stitches at every marker thread in each side for armholes (= 4 stitches on each side of marker thread in the side). Finish each part separately.

BACK PIECE:
= 48-52 (56-60-64-68) stitches.
Continue with double moss stitch as before and cast off for armholes as follows:
Cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of every row from the side 6-7 (5-5-5-5) times in total = 36-38 (46-50-54-58) stitches.
When piece measures 27-30 (32-35-39-43) cm, cast off the middle 16-18 (18-18-22-22) stitches for neck and finish each shoulder separately = 10-10 (14-16-16-18) stitches of shoulder.
Continue until piece measures 28-31 (33-36-40-44) cm and cast off.
Work the other shoulder the same way.

RIGHT FRONT PIECE:
= 27-29 (31-33-35-37) stitches.
Continue with double moss stitch as before and cast off stitches for armholes as on back piece. AT THE SAME TIME when piece measures 21-24 (25-28-31-34) cm, begin decrease for V-neck – read DECREASE TIP!
Cast off 2 stitches at the beginning of next row from neck 2 times in total, then 1 stitch at the beginning of every row from neck 7-8 (8-8-10-10) times in total.
After last decrease there are 10-10 (14-16-16-18) stitches on needle.
Continue until piece measures 28-31 (33-36-40-44) cm and cast off.

LEFT FRONT PIECE:
Work as right front piece but reversed.

POCKET:
Cast on 22 stitches on circular needle size 4 mm with Merino Extra Fine. Work in double moss stitch. When piece measures 8 cm, work 4 rows rib = knit 2/purl 2 and begin from right side.
Loosely cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl.
Knit another pocket the same way.

ASSEMBLY: 
Sew the shoulder seams.

NECK EDGE:
Pick up approx. 64 to 76 stitches inside 1 stitch from right side on circular needle size 4 mm.
Adjust so that number of stitches is divisible by 4, pick up first and last stitch where first stitch was cast off for neck on front pieces.
Make sure that the edge is not too tight or loose according to neck, pick up fewer/more stitches if needed.
Work rib, begin from wrong side as follows:
Work 1 stitch in GARTER STITCH - read explanation above, * purl 2, knit 2 *, repeat from *-* until 3 stitches remain, finish with purl 2 and 1 stitch in garter stitch.
On next row from right side decrease for buttonhole as follows:
Work 1 stitch in garter stitch, knit 2 together, make 1 yarn over, work the rest of row as before.
Work 4 rows in rib in total Then cast off stitches with knit over knit and purl over purl.

SLEEVE EDGE:
Pick up approx. 52 to 60 stitches inside 1 stitch from right side on double pointed needles size 4 mm around armhole, adjust so that number of stitches is divisible by 4.
Make sure that the edge is not too tight or loose according to sleeve, pick up fewer/more stitches if needed. Work rib (= knit 2/purl 2).
When 4 rounds rib have been worked, cast off with knit over knit and purl over purl. Work the other sleeve edge the same way.

ASSEMBLY: 
Sew the buttons on to left front piece and pockets on to each front piece.
