Diagram M.1 shows how to work the beg of shawl. M.2 and M.3 show how to repeat the pattern each side of the middle, M.4 and M.5 shows how to finish the pattern at the bottom of shawl.

SHAWL:...On next row from RS work diagram M.1 one time in height.
Then work as follows: 3 sts in garter st, diagram M.2A 1 time, diagram M.2B 2 times, diagram M.2C 1 time, K 1 (= mid st), diagram M.3A 1 time, diagram M.3B 2 times, finish with diagram M.3C and 3 sts in garter st.
Continue the pattern like this, but for each repeat of M.2/M.3 in height work M.2B/M.3B one extra time on each side of mid st with marker. When piece measures approx. 70 cm/ 27½'' in the middle (make sure to finish after last row in diagram M.2/M.3), work diagram M.4 on the right side of middle stitch seen from RS and M.5 on left side.
Work M.4/M.5 1 time vertically, then work in garter st over all sts for approx. 2 cm / 3/4'' (continue inc 4 sts every other row), LOOSELY bind off all sts. Now piece measures approx. 80 cm / 31½''.

Insert 1 marker on each side of the middle 33-37-37 dc on top of foot.
