Change to needle size 5.5 mm [US 9]. Work 12 rows garter st, at the same time inc 12-10-14-16-17-19 sts evenly on first row = 66-72-80-90-99-109 sts.

At the same time when piece measures 56-59-62-64-67-70 cm [22’’-23 1/4’’-24 3/8’’-25 1/4’’-26 3/8’’-27½’’] work 2 rows garter st on the 8 front band sts only.

blank square = K
cross in square = P
triangle in bottom right corner = K2 tog
triangle in bottom left corner = slip 1 st as if to K, K1, psso
upwards triangle in center of square = slip 1 st as if to K, K2 tog, psso
circle in square = 1 YO
diagonal line in square = P2 tog
downwards triangle in center of square = P3 tog

Crochet info: Replace the first dc on row with 3 ch. Replace first sc on row with 1 ch. Finish all rows with 1 sl st in first st.

Hat:
Round 1: Crochet 4 ch with crochet hook size 4 mm [G/6] with 1 thread of each yarn quality, then 7 dc in the first ch, finish with 1 sl st in third ch = 8 dc.

Round 9: 3 ch in first sc, 1 dc back in last sc on previous round, 1 dc in 3rd sc, 1 dc back in second sc, 1 dc in fifth sc, 1 dc back in fourth sc, continue like this and end round with a sl st in the 3rd ch in beg of
round (= cross-dc's).
