Clue #8 - Forget-Me-Not

It's time to work on some more small squares and this time it's not really a mystery because you know the steps from clue #3. The difference is now we are crocheting 28 of them, in two different color combinations!

Already a CAL pro? You can skip the pictures and go directly to the complete diagram (or the video) at the bottom of the clue.

Colors

We will work 4 rounds in square A.4B with the following colors:

CAST ON + ROUND 1: 06 light jeans blue
ROUNDS 2-3: 05 light wash
ROUND 4: 01 white

Let’s get going!

CAST ON:
Work 4 chain stitches with light jeans blue, form them to a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.

ROUND 1:
Work 1 chain stitch (equivalent to the first single crochet).

Work * 2 chain stitches, 2 single crochets around the ring *, repeat *-* a total of 3 times.

Work 2 chain stitches, 1 single crochet around the ring and finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Do not change color.

Work 1 slip stitch around the first chain-space at the same time as you change to light wash, read COLOR CHANGE TIP below. Cut the light jeans blue strand.

COLOR CHANGE TIP:
To get the neatest transition when changing color, work the last stitch before the color change in the new color.

ROUND 2:
Work 3 chain stitches (equivalent to the first double crochet), 1 double crochet around the first chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochets around the same chain-space, 1 chain stitch.

Work * 2 double crochets around the next chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 2 double crochets around the same chain-space, 1 chain stitch *, repeat *-* a total of 3 times.

Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.

ROUND 3:
Work 1 slip stitch around the first chain-space, 3 chain stitches (equivalent to the first double crochet), 2 double crochets around the same chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets around the same chain-space, 1 chain stitch.

Work * 3 double crochets around the next chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets around the same chain-space, 1 chain stitch *, repeat *-* a total of 3 times.

Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round, at the same time as you change to white. Cut the light wash strand.

ROUND 4:
Work 1 chain stitch, read CROCHET INFO below.

CROCHET INFO:
The round starts with 1 chain stitch before the first single crochet (this chain stitch does not replace the first single crochet).

Work * 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 single crochets around the chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 2 single crochets around the same chain-space, 1 single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches, 2 half double crochets around the chain stitch from rounds 2 and 3 *, repeat *-* a total of 4 times.

Finish the round with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch at the beginning of the round. Cut and fasten the strands!

Finished!

We have now finished one square A.4B, which should measure 8 x 8 cm / 3 1/8'' x 3 1/8". Work a total of 14 of these squares in the same color combination as shown here:

Now you just need to work 14 more squares in our second color combination (as seen below) CAST ON + ROUND 1: light lilac ROUND 2 - 3: lilac ROUND 4: white

Hi reading the negative comments about how many squares to do and its boring ect. ect. make me feel embarrassed of my country members from Denmark. Nobody forced you to start this and the pattern is free !! You dont even have to use their yarn !!! Drops have always done a great work for their customers and if you need pattern, guide what ever its free on their homepage. So thank you Drops for all your hard work for ppl that like to knit and crochet :)

Clue 8 is working out much bigger than the previous small squares, I have checked and the clues all say they should be 8cm x 8cm. This one seems closer to 9cm but the other 34 small squares are only 7cm. I'm a little confused what they should all be. I am loving the cal though. Thank you

20.04.2017 - 16:21

DROPS Design answered:

Dear Elaine, try to keep the same tension so that the squares measure as explained, ie 8 x 8 cm. Happy crocheting!
