We are back to crocheting smaller clues! This time each square has a sweet Potentilla flower, surrounded by a lovely edge of easy stitches.
We are going to work 5 rounds in diagram A.6 with the following colours:
CAST ON + ROUND 1: heather
ROUND 2: lilac
ROUND 3: light lilac
ROUNDS 4-5: white
COLOUR TIPS:
Are you using a different colour combination than the one we are crocheting with?
Make a small note of which colour number replaces which before starting, by seeing the original materials
here.
CROCHET INFO:
Information written between two * is to be repeated every time there is *-* in the text.
The red symbols in the diagrams are described in the text over the pictures.
CAST ON:
Work 4 chain stitches with heather, form them to a ring with 1 slip stitch in the first chain stitch.
ROUND 1:
Work 1 chain stitch, 6 double crochets around the chain-stitch ring.
Finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet on the round, at the same time as you change to lilac, cut the heather strand. Read COLOUR CHANGE TIP below.
COLOUR CHANGE TIP:
To get the neatest transition when changing colour, work the last stitch on the round with the new colour.
ROUND 2:
Work «3 TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER AT THE START OF THE ROUND» as follows: 3 chain stitches (equivalent to the first treble crochet), work 1 treble crochet in the 1st double crochet on the round, but wait with the last yarn over and pull through, work 1 treble crochet in the same stitch and pull the last yarn over through all 3 loops on the hook.
Work * 3 chain stitches, work «3 TREBLE CROCHETS TOGETHER» as follows: Work 2 treble crochets in the next stitch, but wait with the last yarn over and pull through on both of these treble crochets, work 1 treble crochet in the same stitch and pull the last yarn over through all 4 loops on the hook *, repeat *-* 5 times in total, 3 chain stitches (= 6 treble crochet groups and 6 chain-spaces).
Finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round, at the same time as you change to light lilac, cut the lilac strand.
ROUND 3:
Work 1 chain stitch.
Work 4 double crochets around every chain-space all along the round (= 24 double crochets).
Finish with 1 slip stitch in the first double crochet at the beginning of the round, at the same time as you change to white, cut the light lilac strand.
ROUND 4:
Work 3 chain stitches (= First treble crochet).
Work * 5 chain stitches, skip 2 stitches, 1 treble crochet in the next stitch, 2 chain stitches, skip 2 stitches, 1 treble crochet in the next stitch *, repeat *-* 3 times in total.
Work 5 chain stitches, skip 2 stitches, 1 treble crochet in the next stitch, 2 chain stitches, finish with 1 slip stitch in the 3rd chain stitch at the beginning of the round.
ROUND 5:
Continue with white, work 1 chain stitch.
Work * 1 double crochet in the 3rd chain stitch/treble crochet from the previous round, 3 double crochets around the 5-chain-space, 2 chain stitches, 3 double crochets around the same 5-chain-space, 1 double crochet in the next stitch, 4 double crochets around the 2-chain-space *, repeat *-* 4 times in total.

We have now finished one of the squares in A.6, which should measure 8 x 8 cm.
Work 10 of these squares in the same colour combination:

= | chain stitch | |
= | slip stitch in/around stitch
= | double crochet around the chain-stitch ring/chain-space

In this video we show you how to work 3 treble crochets together at the start of the round and how to work 3 treble crochets together in the rest of the round, both techniques used in clue #6.
In this video we show you how to fasten all the strands while you work, in order to avoid having to do them all at the end!

I am substituting Lily's crochet cotton for the Drops yarn and it has been working fine until this block -6. Now it measures almist 4 inches instead of 3. It doesn't want to lay flat no matter what I do so I can't use a smaller hook or crochet tighter. Please help.
