NOTE: This pattern is written in American English. All measurements in charts are in cm. For conversion from cm to inches - click here. PATTERN:
See diagrams A-1 to A-4.

HEEL DECREASE:
Row 1 (= RS): Work until 7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 2 (= WS): Work until 7 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 3 (= RS): Work until 6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to K, K 1, psso, turn piece.
Row 4 (= WS): Work until 6 sts remain, slip 1 st as if to P, P 1, psso, turn piece.
Continue dec like this with 1 less st before slipping 1 st until there are 12 sts on needle.

SOCK 1:
Cast on 56 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 with wine red.
Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 2 cm / 3/4''.
K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 8 sts evenly = 48 sts. Switch to gray, then work according to diagram A-1.
Continue like this until piece measures 10 cm / 4''.
On next round, keep the first 12 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 24 sts on a stitch holder (= mid on top of foot) and keep the last 12 sts on needle for heel.
Continue in stockinette st back and forth with wine red over the 24 heel sts for 5 cm / 2''. Insert a marker in middle of piece.
Then work HEEL DECREASE - see explanation above. After heel dec, knit up 10 sts with light gray along each side of heel and slip the 24 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 56 sts.
Continue to work in the round in stockinette st and diagram A-1. Continue to work until piece measures 12 cm / 4¾'' from marker on heel. Insert a marker in each side so that there are 28 sts both on top of foot and under foot.
Continue working in stockinette st with wine red while AT THE SAME TIME dec for toes on each side of both markers as follows: BEFORE marker: K 2 tog.
AFTER marker: K 2 twisted tog (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front).
Repeat dec every round a total of 10 times = 16 sts remain on needle.
K 2 tog around = 8 sts.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.


SOCK 2:
Cast on 56 sts on double pointed needles size 3.5 mm / US 4 with light gray.
Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 2 cm / 3/4''. K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 8 sts evenly = 48 sts.
Switch to wine red, then work according to diagram A-2.
Continue with stockinette st and stripes until piece measures 10 cm / 4'' – stop after 3 rounds wine red.
On next round, keep the first 12 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 24 sts on a stitch holder (= mid on top of foot) and keep the last 12 sts on needle for heel.
Continue in stockinette st back and forth with light gray over the 24 heel sts for 5 cm / 2''. Insert a marker in middle of piece.
Then work HEEL DECREASE - see explanation above.
After heel dec, knit up 10 sts with off white along each side of heel and slip the 24 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 56 sts.
Then work in stockinette st in the round and continue with A-2 as before. Continue to work until piece measures 12 cm / 4¾'' from marker on heel. Insert a marker in each side so that there are 28 sts both on top of foot and under foot.
Continue working stockinette st with light gray while AT THE SAME TIME dec for toes on each side of both markers as follows:
BEFORE marker: K 2 tog.
AFTER marker: K 2 twisted tog (i.e. work in back loop of st instead of front).
Repeat dec every round a total of 10 times = 16 sts remain on needle. K 2 tog around = 8 sts.
Cut the yarn and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.


SOCK 3:
Cast on 56 sts on needle size 3.5 mm / US 4 with off white.
Work rib = K 2/P 2 for 2 cm / 3/4''.
K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 8 sts evenly = 48 sts. Switch to wine red, then work according to diagram A-3.
When A-3 has been worked, work with wine red until finished measurements.
Continue in stockinette st until piece measures 10 cm / 4''.
On next round, keep the first 12 sts on needle for heel, slip the next 24 sts on a stitch holder (= mid on top of foot) and keep the last 12 sts on needle for heel. Continue in stockinette st back and forth over the 24 heel sts for 5 cm / 2''. Insert a marker in middle of piece.
Then work HEEL DECREASE - see explanation above. After heel dec, knit up 10 sts along each side of heel and slip the 24 sts from stitch holder back on needle = 56 sts.
Then work in stockinette st in the round.
Continue to work until piece measures 12 cm / 4¾'' from marker on heel. Insert a marker in each side so that there are 28 sts both on top of foot and under foot.
Continue working in stockinette st while AT THE SAME TIME dec for toes on each side of both markers as follows:
BEFORE marker: K 2 tog.

K 1 round while AT THE SAME TIME dec 8 sts evenly = 48 sts. Then work diagram A-4.
When A-4 has been worked, continue with light gray.
Continue in stockinette st until piece measures 10 cm / 4''.
