GARTER ST (back and forth on needle):
K sts on all rows.

Cast on (15-15-17) 17-19-21 sts on a double pointed needle size 5.5 mm / US 9 with Andes (let the tail be approx. 20 cm / 8'' long, this is used for assembly).
Work in GARTER ST – see explanation above, back and forth on needle until piece measures (4½-5-5½) 6-7-8 cm / (1 1/4"-2"-2 1/4") 2½"-2 3/4"-3".
Distribute the sts on 4 double pointed needles and work rib K 1/P 1 in the round while AT THE SAME TIME working first and last st on round K tog = mid on top of foot.
There are (14-14-16) 16-18-20 sts on needle.
Continue rib until piece measures (7½-8½-9½) 10½-12½-14½ cm / (2 7/8"-3 1/4"-3 3/4") 4 1/4"-5"-5 3/4".
On next round K2 tog around = (7-7-8) 8-9-10 sts remain on needle.
Piece measures approx. (8-9-10) 11-13-15 cm / (3"-3½"-4") 4½"-5"-6".
Cut the thread and pull it through the remaining sts, tighten tog and fasten.

Fold the cast on edge double (= mid back), use the yarn end at the beginning to sew neatly tog mid back.
